    • MATHEMATICS YEAR 4 FRACTIONS NOTES (ADDING & SUBSTRACTING)
    • FRACTION: HOW TO ADD?? When the denominators are the same… We have a rectangle that is cut into 4 pieces... Each piece is and 2 pieces are If we add , that would be… 4 4 + = 1 4 2 4 1 2 + = 3 4
    • When the denominators are different… We need to find least common denominator (LCD) For example, The LCD for 2 and 3 is 6… Change : Change :
    • When the denominators are the same… We have a rectangle that is cut into 6 pieces... Each piece is . So, HOW TO SUBTRACT?? (5 pieces) Take away 2 pieces, So, (3 pieces are left) 1 6 5 6 - 2 6 5 6 = 5 6 - 2 6 = 3 6
