1. Before I attended ‘introduction to PR’, I
actually did not exactly know what PR was.
But I remember considering it as something
very specific. By now, I have become more
knowledgeable and aware of the actual facts
about PR and not least realized that PR is
much more complex, than I first assumed.
These are some of the things I learned.
2. I’ve learned about the importance of
research and what public relations
practitioner use research for. However, the
issue that caught my fully attention was, the
fact that research is much more complex
than I thought. There are several kinds of
research –
Qualitative, quantitative, questionnaire, seco
ndary.
3. I’ve learned some cool persuasion techniques
that I can practice in real life just for the
experience of it and certainly also start noticing
when others speak. Some of the most
interesting ones are the ‘yes- yes’ and ‘the
structured choice’. Besides this the persuasion
techniques used for advertising, commercials
and propaganda have opened my eyes and I
have become more aware of the
manipulation/persuasion that occurs all the
time.
4. I have learned many new genres as, mat
releases, media kits, media alerts and fact
sheet, pitch letters. In this connection I have
realized that it is very important to choose
the right channel for your message and that
this is vital for the effect of the message.
5. I leaned how important social media is in the
PR world. I figured that many PR
practitioners and other PR interested keep
up to date through various kinds of social
media. I also noticed that a big part of PR is
to be aware of the surrounding world and the
tendencies and movements within society.
6. By interviewing a PR practitioner, I realized
that they truly have a very varying workday
where they deal with many different tasks. I
thought this was very interesting and not
least tempting to be working with so many
different things.
7. I’ve never even thought of podcast and
actually did not know what it was. But now I
know! I have learned that podcast is an
excellent way to obtain new information
about any topic of interest. It is also a fun
and entertaining way to gain new knowledge.
8. I have found out how important it is to write
correctly to get the full outcome of a
message. Besides this, I found that the
ordinary rules for writing is far from sufficient.
There are needed many more details and
this is what AP style gives you. The coolest
thing is that you can look up modern terms
that have just become a part of the
language.
9. I was given some guidelines for writing a
resume. I thought many of the tools were
obviously, but when I started to write my own
resume I realized that is was very difficult. It
takes a lot of practice and time to write a
very good resume.
10. I learned how important it is to consider the
audience if you want to be an effective
communicator and make sure your message
is received correctly. You have to take
several issues into consideration, e.g.
Culture, religion, ethnic, age, gender, status
etc.
11. Through the examples provided in my
textbook and the examples my professor
gave in class, I have obtained knowledge
about various issues of different companies
and obtained a bigger understanding of how
PR is incorporated in the different
companies.
