PEOPLE IN THE RHINE <ul><li>The Rhine River has had a very important rule throughout history. Next I will speak about the main events that have happened on there: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>The battle of the Teutoburg Forest, which established our river as the north frontier of the enormous Roman Empire. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Rhine has historically been a source of border problems between France and Germany. We’ v e got many cases, for example in 1840, when the crisis of the Rhine took place. </li></ul></ul>
<ul><li>When the First World War finished, the Treaty of Versailles specified the demilitarization of Rhineland. The Rhineland was also occupied by allied troops during fifteen years and that created much bitterness in Germany. - There are two bridges in the Rhine that also have had a very important rule in some events. The bridge in Arnhem was the central scene of the battle of Arnhem in 1944 and the one in Remagen was also very important because the Nazi troops couldn’ t demolish the bridge in time and that allowed the allied troops to establish a head in German territory
