  2. 2. History of Facebook <ul><li>Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg. A student at Harvard University. </li></ul><ul><li>It was launched on February 4 th 2004. </li></ul><ul><li>It was originally intended for Harvard university students to easily network and communicate with one another. It was then expanded to other universities across the Boston area. </li></ul><ul><li>Since 2006 it has been available to all people with an email address. </li></ul><ul><li>As of October 2007 Facebook grew to over 42 million active members throughout the world. Projections point to over 60 million users by the end of this year alone. </li></ul><ul><li>In one year from September 2006 to September 2007 Facebook’s ranking among most visited websites jumped from 60 th to 7 th place. </li></ul>
