Back To School Night 2

 1. 1. Welcome to Ms.Yildirim's Geometry Math Class
Back to School Night
September 30,2010
2. 2. Our Classroom Goals

These are the goals that we came up with as a class the first two weeks of school:
 3. 3. build a strong foundation in geometry
 4. 4. create an informal learning environment where each student feels comfortable answering or asking questions in front of the class.
 5. 5. using technology to assist in evaluating, organizing and researching concepts of geometry (a 21st century learning skill).

Students are Expected to..

Always be prepared for class

¤Have pencils, notebooks, graphing calculator, and textbook during class

Respect classroom rules

¤Must be seated when bell rings
¤Students must respect each others answers whether it is correct or needs improvement

Fully participate in all technology labs/projects
 6. 6. Geometer's Sketchpad

Integrating 21st Century Learning into our Geometry Community: Technology

Students will be taught how to use a very helpful computer program called Geometer's Sketchpad.
 7. 7. explore characteristics of triangles
 8. 8. construction of isosceles and equilateral triangles
 9. 9. explore geometric construction of parabolas

Students will also use the graphing calculator

we will use the calculator more so as a tool to check our work and to perform actions that can only be solved by a calculator
 10. 10. we will never use the calculator as a means of carrying out simple math operations/calculations(that is what our brain is there for)

Technology Lab: Geometer's Sketchpad

There will be 101 project idea that each student can choose from
 11. 11. 101 Project Ideas
 12. 12. this lab allows students to think critically about geometry
 13. 13. this lab is strictly based off of technology and geometry skills acquired in class
 14. 14. a presentation will be expected from each student at the completion of their projects project

Grade Break Down

Participation: 10%
 15. 15. Homework: 10%
 16. 16. will be assigned and checked daily
 17. 17. Quiz: 10%
 18. 18. Projects: 20 %
 19. 19. 1 project will be assigned each marking period
 20. 20. additionally the Geometer's Sketchpad project presentations will begin last month of school
 21. 21. Tests: 40%

Action Plan

A student's success is a group effort of the student, parent and teacher.
 22. 22. So lets make your child's success a community effort.
 23. 23. Every student needs the support of their teacher as well as the people they live with.

Contact Information
There are many different ways to reach me via:
¤ telephone: school number + extension #4458
¤email: yildiriml1@mail.montclair.edu
¤school website: montclair.edu/yildiriml1/geometry
On my web-page you will find
¤ helpful math links websites
¤this presentation
¤ a daily recap of what was done in class along with the homework for the night
I look forward to working with you and your child during the school year!!
