  2. 2. The fifth century B.C. <ul><li>On November 1 st century B.C. the Celts new year was November the first because it was the first day of winter. They believed October the 31 st was the boundary of the worlds between the living and the dead. </li></ul>
  3. 3. A.D. 43 <ul><li>By A.D. 43 the Romans conquered the nation, and the two holidays combined. </li></ul>
  4. 4. The 800’s <ul><li>The pope tried to get rid of the Celts holiday so he made a new holiday called All Saints Day to honor the saints. It was also called Hallows. </li></ul>
  5. 5. 1000 A.D. <ul><li>The church made November 2 nd All Souls Day a day to honor the dead. Together Hallowmas, All saints day, and all souls day became Hallowmas. </li></ul>
  6. 6. American Halloween <ul><li>Halloween is moved to America when the Europeans came to America. </li></ul>
  7. 7. The 1800’s and 1920’s <ul><li>A move in America makes Halloween a holiday. Then in the 1920’s becomes a secular holiday. </li></ul>
  8. 8. Halloween in Mexico <ul><li>Children get on costumes and go around their neighborhood houses. It also last three days. </li></ul>
  9. 9. Halloween in England <ul><li>In England the celebration is also known as Bonfire Night Bonfires burn in almost every street in England. </li></ul>
  10. 10. Halloween in Poland <ul><li>In Poland doors and windows are left open to welcome the spirits or the visiting souls. In Poland November 1 has become a public holiday. </li></ul>
  11. 11. Three Personalities of Halloween <ul><li>Dracula, Pumpkins, and Ghosts are all personalities of Halloween. </li></ul>
  12. 12. Halloween in America <ul><li>In America people dress up in costumes and go to houses and get candy. They also carve pumpkins. </li></ul>
