It's elastic because... Billing is by the hour (10c/hour = $72/month) Server setup time = Server startup time. A traditional dedicated hosting plan can take a few hours for the providers to setup. Amazon EC2 setup time is as long as it takes to boot the machine (typically less than 3 minutes) It's automated ( which means it's programmable )
