  2. 2. Essential Question <ul><li>How does sports effect people’s lives in Africa? </li></ul>
  3. 3. Why I chose this topic? <ul><li>I chose this topic because I like sports and I wanted to know if Africans enjoy playing sports. </li></ul>
  4. 4. What I already know <ul><li>I already know that Africans play sports. </li></ul><ul><li>I know that sports are important to them </li></ul>
  5. 5. What sports do Africa play? <ul><li>A really popular sport in Africa is soccer. </li></ul><ul><li>For most countries soccer is the national sport. </li></ul><ul><li>Africa plays netball, cricket, squash, handball, and lawn bowling. </li></ul>

Ethnic groups connecting to Sports <ul><li>Ethnic groups make the sports Africa play really competitive. </li></ul><ul><li>They play really rough but they also have really good sportsmanship. </li></ul><ul><li>Ethnic group makes it easy to create teams because they’re already in groups. </li></ul>
  7. 7. African sports league <ul><li>Africa has a lot of leagues for basketball, soccer and other sports. </li></ul><ul><li>Africa participates in Fifa world cup and the Olympics and other leagues. </li></ul>
  8. 8. The Impact Sports Have on Kids <ul><li>Kids play sports even when pouring rain. </li></ul><ul><li>Since Africa schools can’t afford many of the equipment needed kids can’t participate in sports even if they do have equipment it is very bad. </li></ul>

Apartheid and Sports <ul><li>Due to apartheid Africa was absent from a lot of international sports. </li></ul><ul><li>Recently apartheid was not allowed so now Africans can play the sports they love. </li></ul><ul><li>Because of Apartheid Africans were banned from the Olympic games and people started boycotting it. </li></ul>

  11. 11. What surprised me <ul><li>That kids still go out to play sports when raining. Also that Africans weren’t allowed to participate in sports </li></ul>
