3. 3. Article 1
Ballet Bridges Elementary Schools
http://www.nycballet.com/teachers/residency/elementary.html
The New York City Ballet Company put together a program that teaches elementary school children through workshops, lessons, lectures and much more.
4. 4. Article 1 Cont.
This is a five month a year process that aims to provide elementary children with tools to make ballet a life long activity.
This program is not only for the students but also for the teachers. It provides the teachers with the ability to use dance as a tool for literacy in there own classrooms.
5. 5. Personal Reflection
I am a huge fan of ballet and love the idea of having it in our classrooms. I think it can teach order and creativity in little children. I can also teach children balance, reasoning skills and posture. It promotes health and activity.
6. 6. Article 2
Brazilian Kids fulfill a dream at Miami Ballet School
http://www.miamiherald.com/entertainment/dance/story/1150262.html
This article is about a program were children are taken from poverty stricken towns in Brazil to Miami for Ballet training. The purpose of this program is to give these children hope for their future and a profession they can lean back on.
7. 7. Article 2 Cont.
This program was put together by a former ballerina named Alice Arja. She travels to Brazil looking for kids who are in need of help. She has been able to give them jobs as ballet dancers by sending them to additions after training them. She has been about to give many young girls and boys a career.
8. 8. Personal Reflection
When I first read this article I was impressed with all the work this woman put into helping al these children and young adults. After reading it again I was a little freaked out. I don’t know why a lady would get all these venerable kids from there home and have them work so many hours learning ballet. It sounds a little creepy.
9. 9. Article 3
Educational Outreach
http://www.portlandballet.org/eduout.htm
Portland School of Ballet travels to schools with its lecture, demonstration performances to promote the PSB school. The goal is to promote ballet as an art form.
10. 10. Article 3 Cont.
School children and there teachers are encouraged to join the demonstrations. This way the PBS can create a bridge for young aspiring dancers to join there company.
11. 11. Personal Reflection
I thought that this was a great idea for the dance school to get children interested in ballet. I was especially impressed with the demonstrations that involve the kids so that they can more than appreciate it from afar.
12. 12. Conclusion
I was a ballet dancer for twelve years. I am passionately in love with this art. I teach ballet to little girls and boys now. This is why I chose this topic for this power point. I would love to have a ballet school be an outreach to the school I will teach at in the near future.
