• 1. Working Title Films By Amy Potts
 • 2. Some Information…

This is a British film company based in London. The company was founded by Tim Bevan and Sarah Radclyffe in 1984. The company found fame when it released ‘four weddings and a funeral’ with Hugh Grant which became a hit in the box office. It was said that it was hard to finance the company as it was almost bankrupt for a lot of the time. In 2004 however, the company made a profit of £17.8 million, however, universal studios owns 67% of the company and a lot of films have been co produced with studios such as ‘studio canal’- this makes the debate of whether it is truly British. Its first film was the Stephen Frears film- my beautiful laundrette. Some famous films which have made a lot of money internationally are: the borrowers, Notting hill, Elizabeth, Bridget Jones diary, Ned Kelly and burn after reading.

 • 3. Bridget Jones Diary

This is one of the films produced by working title films, I am using this film because it is one of the most successful. It was released in 2001 April.

The person who wrote the book- Helen Fielding also did the screenplay for the film.

The director is Sharon Maguire

The genre is a typical British film- romantic comedy

The film was nominated for an Oscar and won a few awards which has made the film popular and therefore working title is more popular.

The setting typically represents Britain by setting it in London.

The main actor is Renee Zellwegger who is American putting on an English accent, this may be argued that the film is not typically Britain. She was reported to having put on 25lb for the part,

The budget of the film was $26 million but made a lot more in profits.

 • 4. Shaun of the Dead

Simon Pegg is the main star of the film but also co wrote the screenplay with Edgar Wright. Simon Pegg also is British representing British films. It was also directed by Edgar.

It is a comedy horror, not a common genre for Britain but was still very popular.

This was released a few years later than Bridget Jones Diary in 2004 in April.

The budget of the film was £4 million but made £30 million.

 • 5. Pride and Prejudice

This film set in the countryside of England and Keira Knightley, this typically represents England as not many other places such as America are able to film is the countryside with large mansions.
