  • 2. Early Years <ul><li>Born in Assisi, Italy in 1181 </li></ul><ul><li>1 of 7 children </li></ul><ul><li>His father is Pietro di Bernadon </li></ul><ul><li>His father is a wealthy cloth merchant </li></ul><ul><li>His mother is Pica Bourlemant </li></ul>
  • 3. Early Years <ul><li>Francis wanted to be a man of the church. </li></ul><ul><li>When his father found out he was furious. </li></ul><ul><li>Francis didn’t know what to do because his father didn’t want him to be a man of the church </li></ul>
  • 4. Life in the Military <ul><li>He joined a military expedition in 1201 to fight against Perugia. </li></ul><ul><li>He was taken prisoner in Collestrada and was held captive for many years. </li></ul>
  • 5. Illness <ul><li>Francis came across a illness that led to spiritual crisis. </li></ul><ul><li>This illness led him to have visions </li></ul><ul><li>The visions told him to go to places . </li></ul>
  • 6. Franciscan Friars <ul><li>Pope Innocent III agreed to meet Francis and all of his followers </li></ul><ul><li>After they talked to the Pope, the were able to go back to their admittance. </li></ul>
  • 7. Prayer of St. Francis <ul><li>It is attributed to the 13 th century. </li></ul><ul><li>It was first written in French. </li></ul><ul><li>It is written in Many different languages. </li></ul>
  • 8. Stigmata <ul><li>1226- St. Francis received the stigmata in the Spring of 1226 on Mt. Alverna. </li></ul><ul><li>Shortly After that St. Francis died . </li></ul>
  • 9. How He died <ul><li>St. Francis died in the Spring of 1226. </li></ul><ul><li>He died on Mt. Alverna shortly after he received the Stigmata. </li></ul>
