  2. 2. LONDON <ul><li>London is the capital of both England and the United Kingdom , and the largest metropolitan area in the European Union. </li></ul><ul><li>This is the Big Ben. It is the nickname for the great bell of the clock at the north-eastern end of the Palace of Westminster . It celebrates its 150th birthday in 2009,during which celebratory events are planned. </li></ul>
  3. 3. YOU CAN ALSO VISIT IN LONDON … <ul><li>St Paul's Cathedral is the Anglican cathedral on Ludgate Hill, in the City of London, and the seat of the Bishop of London. The cathedral is one of London's most visited sites. </li></ul><ul><li>The London Eye, (also known as the Millennium Wheel ) at a height of 135 metres , is the biggest Ferris wheel in Europe. </li></ul>
  4. 4. UNIVERSITY TOWNS IN ENGLAND <ul><li>Cambridge is best known as the home of the University of Cambridge, one of the world's premier universities. This is King's College Chapel. </li></ul><ul><li>Oxford is home to the University of Oxford, the oldest university in the English-speaking world. This bridge is often referred to as the Bridge of Sighs because of its supposed similarity to the famous Bridge of Sighs in Venice. </li></ul>
  5. 5. STRATFORD-UPON-AVON <ul><li>This town is a popular tourist destination because it was the birthplace of the playwright and poet William Shakespeare. The picture shows the house where Shakespeare was born. </li></ul>
  6. 6. BIRMINGHAM <ul><li>Birmingham is the second most populated British city after London. Sian, our language assistant, lives here. </li></ul><ul><li>This bull is an icon at The Bull Ring, the major commercial area of Birmingham. The other picture shows the garden at the University of Birmingham . </li></ul>
