  2. 2. What is Sleep Apnea? <ul><li>Sleep apnea is a common disorder in which you Have one or more pauses in breathing or shallow breaths while you sleep </li></ul>
  3. 3. What causes Sleep Apnea? <ul><li>In obstructive sleep apnea your airways can be blocked by your throat muscle and tongue if they relax more than normal and clog the airway. This can happen if you are overweight because of the extra soft fat tissue can thicken the wall of the windpipe. </li></ul><ul><li>Central Sleep Apnea is when the airway isn’t blocked but the brain fails to signal the muscles to breathe. this occurs most commonly if you have an illness that affects the lower part of the brainstem. </li></ul>

Symptoms of Sleep Apnea <ul><li>Being very tired during the day </li></ul><ul><li>Waking up often during the night </li></ul><ul><li>Going to the bathroom often at night </li></ul><ul><li>Having headaches in the early morning </li></ul><ul><li>Poor memory and difficulty concentrating </li></ul><ul><li>Mood problems </li></ul>
  5. 5. Treatment for Sleep Apnea <ul><li>Maintaining a health weight and eating style </li></ul><ul><li>Avoid the use of alcohol and sleeping pills </li></ul><ul><li>Using nasal spray or breathing strips while you sleep to open airway passages </li></ul>
