Water skiing An amazing sport practiced by 11 million people in America.
Ralph Samuelson Ralph Samuelson invented water skiing on July 2, 1922. He thought that if you can ski on snow you can ski on water. He invented it on Lake Pepin with his brother in Minnesota. His brother towed him while he used snow skis. Ralph was 18 when he invented the sport.
Slalom skiing Slalom skiing is just like water skiing, except you only use one ski. This makes it much harder. The boat has to go 30 mph and the skis have bindings that keep both of your feet facing forward.
