  • Business Intelligence System 04/19/10 Accel Integration Company Limited
  • Business Intelligence System 04/19/10 Accel Integration Company Limited Goal of this first slide is to set the tone for BI – companies have spent a ton of money on implementing end user related systems – from customer relationship management (CRM), to ERP, to supply chain (SCM), to HR – and this has caused significant issues for IT as they try to integrate all of these systems together. Figures from the following Gartner articles: CRM: CRM Project Costs Identified and Defined, Beth Eisenfeld, April 2, 2003 ERP: Lies, Darn Lies, and Application Costs Estimates, Vinnie Merchandani, April 12, 1999 ($20,000 figure); Benchmark the Operational Cost of your SAP Applications, Derek Prior, February 3, 2004 ($16,000 figure) SSP
  • Business Intelligence System 04/19/10 Accel Integration Company Limited Despite all the money spent, a recent survey by BusinessWeek found that a majority of the business users today are still going on “gut feel,” and not utilizing the data from these systems to make effective business decisions. Goal on this slide is to let the numbers speak for themselves most say they go on gut vs. hard facts only 1/5 say they have the right amount of information to make an informed business decision 3/4 say they make bad decisions because they don’t have sufficient information this is a problem given the investment made in these systems. (Note that because of rounding the pie chart adds up to 101%) SSP
  • Business Intelligence System 04/19/10 Accel Integration Company Limited This is somewhat of a conclusion slide. We’ve built the case that there is an information problem, end-users are feeling it, and companies that are addressing it are successful – in this slide we start to agenda set around how Business Objects would solve this problem – and start to talk in general terms: Mass availability: leading into our reporting offerings Interactivity: our query and analysis capabilities Proactivity: setting the stage for performance management (using information to impact future direction and behavior). SSP
  • Business Intelligence System 04/19/10 Accel Integration Company Limited The goal of this slide is to agenda set around the SHORTCOMINGS of other approaches – namely those by Microsoft and SAP, as well as Cognos in the “traditional BI tools” bullet. It’s important to note that the customer likely has implemented many of these solutions already with varying degrees of success, so you don’t want to insult them in terms of what they’ve already spent money on. Rather, the goal here is to point out how these approaches in the end do not help the end users get what they need in order to solve their key business problems – again, setting up the Business Objects approach and agenda by speaking in a roundabout way about the need to standardize on a strategic use of BI and a BI tool – ultimately, ours. SSP
  • Business Intelligence System 04/19/10 Accel Integration Company Limited This slide hits on why you want to use BI vs. the approaches on the previous slide – we’re trying to paint a vision of what the customer environment COULD become by using Business Objects All companies will want to have these positive characteristics. SSP
  • Business Intelligence System 04/19/10 Accel Integration Company Limited (Remove less appropriate examples for each prospect to lighten slide) BI is not specific to any one department within the enterprise, with many applications across many functions. Here are some examples: Sales and Marketing – tracking the success of internal marketing campaigns; segmenting and profiling market members. Operations management – monitoring the movement of goods both in and out of the enterprise; identifying where delays in delivery are the cause of late payment. Finance – tracking expense by department over time, spotting anomalies. DSOs: Days’ Sales Outstanding – a measure of how efficient the organization is being at collecting payment Human resources – identifying problems in retention or absenteeism, and where there are concentrations of these problems. Manufacturing – tracking back customer complaints regarding quality to the original supplier, to address the problem fast. SSP

  • Business Intelligence System 04/19/10 Accel Integration Company Limited Voice Over: Full Unicode repository Historical report instances – the ability to store previous refreshes of documents for comparison e.g. for Web Intelligence Open security integration – Action control list security model Powerful semantic layer – including the ability for Crystal Reports to access data via universes Unified data integration Extensive partner certifications
  • Business Intelligence System 04/19/10 Accel Integration Company Limited
  • Business Intelligence System 04/19/10 Accel Integration Company Limited Web Intelligence includes: An all DHTML environment optimized for consumption, raher than authoring. It lets users « walk before they run », by exposing minimal functionality for ew users, but letting those users, or administrators progressively turn on more functionality as they get comfortable The ability to see technical metadata behind any report –who authored the report, when it was last run, how long the query took, and how the formula in the report are defined in a context panel (From the new platform) new scheduling capabilities that allow end-users to schedule a report to run on a regular basis (e.g., daily, hourly) or using a customozed « business calendar » that can be tailored to an organization’s fiscal calendar, holiday schedule, or other unique organizational requirements (From the new platform) the ability to hold discussions threads around individual documents
  • Business Intelligence System 04/19/10 Accel Integration Company Limited Key Message: Increased query power Synchronized-multiple data providers Combined queries using the ‘Union,’ ‘Intersect,’ and ‘Minus’ commands Access to OLAP data via universes Sub queries and conditional queries based on object-to-object comparison Edit SQL Increased reporting power Report and query ranking Custom sorts Advanced formula functions and operators Enhanced trust in information View ETL technical metadata on a report Requires BusinessObjects Data Integrator Voice Over: BusinessObjects XI Release 2 will deliver significant enhancements and innovations to the web-based query and analysis client Web Intelligence. It will be enhanced to deliver query authoring power and ease-of-use interactivity features that will help organizations broaden the reach of ad hoc analysis through a zero-client interface. These enhancements will focus on increasing the power of the Java Query Panel capabilities available to Web Intelligence users. These new query capabilities include: Synchronized, multiple data providers that allow users to bring together data from two universes into a single table or chart and then explore this information Combined queries using the ‘Union,’ ‘Intersect,’ and ‘Minus’ commands Access to OLAP data via universes Sub queries – allowing users to use the results of a query as a filter for a further query Conditional queries based on object-to-object comparison The ability to manually edit SQL Additionally, BusinessObjects XI Release 2 will provide greatly enhanced report creation capabilities. These include: Ranking of both query results and report content Custom sorting Advanced formula language functions (including Where/Previous functions) Trusted data is key in a world of compliance but so is trusted the decisions you make using information. In XI we delivered trusted information by sharing technical metadata with end users, now we are extending that to include ETL metadata. Specific users will benefit from the ability to understand how their data has been transformed by Data integrator. (obviously not all users) Improved data quality for all BI ensuring I can trust. Our DI data quality capabilities are ensuring that there is effectively a “quality fire wall” for data reaching end user reports. Data quality positioning for DI – Data quality firewall Users can also take of advantage of the Live Office capabilities to display sure BI information within PowerPoint, Excel or Word Additionally a tool will be delivered that will allow the automatic conversion of Desktop Intelligence documents to Web Intelligence. There is a more detailed discussion of this in the paper: Determining End-User Requirements with BusinessObjects XI Release 2.
  • Business Intelligence System 04/19/10 Accel Integration Company Limited Live Office helps business users easily embed accurate, updatable data in documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. The resulting Office documents can then be securely shared with others using BusinessObjects Enterprise and hosted in corporate portals for collaborative decision-making. With support for Word, Powerpoint and Excel, users can now manage their Office documents the same way they manage their other BI content while taking advantage of the security and management of BusinessObjects Enterprise Get self-service access to corporate data from Office Live Office lets you easily access your corporate data from within Microsoft Office without depending on IT. Save time by connecting to one centralized system for all your data. Then, use an intuitive Wizard and business-friendly views for easy data selection. Plus, once the data is embedded, you can format using the familiar features in Office. End time-wasting debates over data accuracy Live Office can help you end time-consuming debates over data accuracy. Use credible, IT-verified information that's based on existing corporate reports. Instant refreshing and refiltering puts the most accurate, up-to-date data at your fingertips for more confident decisions. Plus, all formatting and calculations are retained. Securely share context-rich documents with others Using Live Office, you can publish "live" Office documents to BusinessObjects Enterprise for sharing with your co-workers through a business intelligence portal. Context-rich linking to the underlying reports helps give people more insight into the data you've used. Plus, the data is protected by retaining existing security from the underlying report. This means that even in if your document ends up in the hands of the wrong people, they won't be able to view the data you've embedded.
  • Business Intelligence System 04/19/10 Accel Integration Company Limited New features in performance management include: Ability to display Crystal Reports, report parts, and OLAP Intelligence in dashboards Security now managed centrally through the Central Management Console « Change management » -an easy 2-step migration from development to test to production servers
