  • 1. Overview of MWSC Services Information, Referral, Advocacy & Support
  • 2. The Muslim Women’s Support Centre of WA (Inc) Founded in 1987 and incorporated in 1992, the MWSC WA (Inc) is a specialised agency committed to the enhancement of the social well being of Muslim women, youth and their families. Working with the Muslim community, it aims to promote better health, self-esteem, the personal and spiritual growth of Muslim women and their families, and in cooperation with other service providers, it aspires to promote positive relationships and understanding. “ O humankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you in to nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily the most honourable of you with God is that who is righteous, God is All- Knowing, All-Aware.” (49:13)

    •  To promote the health and wellbeing of Muslim women and their families
    • To promote the self-esteem, personal development and spiritual growth of Muslim women and their families in WA
    • To assist WA Government agencies and service providers in their provision of Services to Muslim women and their families
    •  To promote positive relationships and understanding between the Muslim Community in WA and the wider community
    •  To promote cooperation between the Association and all organisations promoting similar objectives
    The Objectives of the Association are:
  • 4. Human Resources
    • The organisation has a management committee comprising of a core committee of four: the President, Vice-President, the Secretary and the Treasurer, who are assisted by a minimum of six other committee members. There are currently 5 paid staff (all part-time) and 20 registered volunteers.
    • Reflective of the multicultural society we live in, our staff, management committee, volunteers and members are of diverse ethnic backgrounds.

    • Information, referral and advocacy
    • Direct casework
    • Group Work
    • Collaborative work with other agencies
  • 6. Settlement Services Funded by DIaC, this program provides free and general settlement support, information, referral and advocacy, to best serve the needs of newly arrived refugee and humanitarian entrants. This service also includes group work and activities such as information sessions, English conversational classes etc.  
    • Accessing government services (Centrelink payments and benefits; Homeswest housing)
    • Accessing English Classes
    • Accessing employment
    • Budgeting and acessing material assistance to help with bill payments
    • Accessing health information and services
    • Assistance and referral for those experiencing family conflict or violence
    • Social support and community networking
  • 7. Community Relations and Integration Officer
    • Funded through OMI’s CRIO program, this project aims to assist mothers in furthering their parenting skills and enhancing their overall wellbeing.
    • Parenting Development Officer (Arabic and Somali bilingual worker)
    • Available Mondays and Fridays
    • 9am to 4:30pm.
  • 8. Women's Education and Life Skills Program
    • Currently this program is conducted monthly. Sessions are conducted by qualified facilitators.
    • First Monday of Every month
    • 10am-12pm

  • 9. Youth Activities
    • A range of activities and events for young girls , including the Annual All Ladies Formal, annual All Girls Camp focussing on building life skills), Islamic education, sporting events and more!
  • 10. Playgroup
    • Conducted weekly for mothers with children 4 years and under: play, learn and share parenting ideas in a comfortable and welcoming environment.

  • 11. Material Support
    • Providing food, clothing and other items to families in financial crisis.
  • 12. Cultural Awareness Workshops for Service Providers
    • Workshops to assist service provider in their work with Muslim clients (information on social etiquette, diet, dress, health practices etc.)
    • Community forums and short courses
  • 13. Other service providers outreach at MWSC
    • Police Outreach Program
    • Qualified Police Officers provide direct services to clientele in a more comfortable, less intimidating environment. Service available every second and fourth Thursday of the month, 3pm to 4pm at MWSC.
    • DoCEP Outreach Program
    • Qualified Education Officer from the Labour Division are available to provide information on employment rights and entitlement as well as assist those who may be experiencing problems in their current workplace .
