Puccini’s operas are very often flowing and continuous, and do not contain many breaks or pauses.
Puccini uses the singing in the style of speech, where characters sing short verses, giving the effect that they are talking between each other.
Many of Puccini’s operas contain melodies constructed with the use of sequences from the scale. These melodies that Puccini composed have become popular and many operatic singers adopt them in their songs.
Puccini’s operas were set outside of Italy, which was unusual for Italian composers of the time. The operas were set in more exotic places like Japan, California, Paris and China.
