Facing the facts of Slavery <ul><li>200,000-300,000 children are sold into slavery each year </li></ul><ul><li>27 million people are working in some type of slavery. </li></ul><ul><li>Selling children is common is Africa because many people live in poverty and need the money. </li></ul><ul><li>Children are smuggled and sold across African countries and as far as Europe.( Ghana, Nigeria, ect.) </li></ul><ul><li>Child Slavery is illegal in many African countries such as Ivory Coast. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Life as a Slave <ul><li>Boys sold into slavery usually work on cotton + cocoa plantations. Girls are used for domestic servants. </li></ul><ul><li>5-6 year olds are fishers </li></ul><ul><li>Child Slaves work for 14 hrs. a day and fed only 1 meal. </li></ul><ul><li>Many kids are seriously ill. </li></ul><ul><li>Beaten if they misbehave </li></ul>Mark Kwadwo a “previous” slave, as seen on Oprah

The Parents Side <ul><li>Sometimes children are kidnapped and sold into slavery </li></ul><ul><li>Others are in slavery because parents sold them for as little as $14. </li></ul><ul><li>Parents are often fooled and told their child would get a good education. </li></ul><ul><li>Parents also trick their kids and say they will stay with a family member and pick them up in a year, but never do. </li></ul>
