Main image- there is only one image on this contents whereas in others there are a lot of image. This image is the largest thing on the page and is the background of the contents. 50 cent (the model used) is also on the front cover showing how important he is. The image gives a serious look and is a long shot making him stand out. All the money on the floor and case makes the image more ‘bad’ and gives a hip hop theme. It also takes up white space making it more attractive. His tattoos on his arms are showing as well which a stereotypical hip hop/rap artist will have. He is dressed all in blue and white, his colours are coordinated. The image takes up most the space which is usual for a contents page as there is not meant to be a lot of writing. Magazine cover title- this is placed on the top corner. It stands out as it is the only text in red and white. The text is sans serif font.
Contents title- this is the largest text and is written in serif font and in black. It stands out as it is really large however I don’t like it as the font doesn’t work well. Also capital letters weren’t added. But it does seem to bring the readers attention. The title is catchy and short and of slang showing the hip hop theme. Editorial pillars- the features are shown on the right hand side. The heading ‘Features Dec/Jan 2010’ is written in serif font and is in italic showing the differentiation from the other text. It is also much larger then the rest of the text. All text are black as it stands out on a white background. The subheadings are of sans serif font and the information below is also the same font. On the information the names of artists that are in this magazine are made bold to show who is in it. The heading ‘Cover Story’ on the left side is the same font as ‘Features Dec/Jan 2010’. Also the subheadings and information are the same. I like how they made the important information bold as that is what the readers will be looking at.
Eye Flow I thought this was the eye flow as from looking at the title I look at the main image then the editorial pillars and back down.
XXL never used editors notes, a lot of images and the front cover image. I liked how they made the important text bold in the information of each page. I also like the image as it is representing the hip hop/rap theme through his clothing, pose and props. This is because rap and hip hop lovers stereotypically like to wear era hats and look rude like 50 cent does in this image. Also they love money and want it.
