The norms for amenity spaces are 4 acres per 1000 population.
Gurgaon needs for 20 lakhs population at least 8000 acres for amenity spaces.
We should put in an RTI application to ascertain the acreage devoted to amenity spaces
in Gurgaon.
Playgrounds are not, it seems, planned for in Gurgaon, or in any city in Haryana. When
administration is asked about public arenas like Tau Devi Lal Stadium on Sohna Road,
the stock reply is, "that is not meant for you"; there are no rules on how it may be utilised
when not otherwise engaged in functions called at behest of ruling party of the State.
Hence no daily use playgrounds open to public available in Gurgaon. (Incidentally CNN
IBN reported on 6 Oct 2009 that in Mumbai only 0.3 acres per 1000 population is
devoted for amenity spaces!!! When will Gurgaon reach that level - 2021???)
