I picked my topic because…. <ul><li>I wanted to learn more about why there is child slaves </li></ul><ul><li>What are they forced to do when they are slaves </li></ul><ul><li>Why some parents let there children be slaves </li></ul><ul><li>I wanted to see the numbers of the amount of children in Africa, and if it is a big thing there. </li></ul><ul><li>I also thought it would be interesting to learn more about how other children live </li></ul>
  3. 3. My essential question <ul><li>What will Africa do to help prevent some of the child slavery in Africa? </li></ul>

Cocoa <ul><li>For every chocolate bar sold more children are forced into child slavery on cocoa farms </li></ul><ul><li>The Ivory Coast where most chocolate factories purchase there cocoa is were some African child slaves are put to work </li></ul><ul><li>Boy slaves are usually sold to work as slaves in a cocoa plantation </li></ul><ul><li>If we refuse to use all cocoa then farmers would be under more pressure which leads to more child slavery </li></ul><ul><li>Ivory Coast is trying to put an end to child slavery in the chocolate industry </li></ul>

Real numbers <ul><li>UNICEF estimates that 200,000 children from Africa are sold into slavery </li></ul><ul><li>It is estimated that up to 250 million children work worldwide </li></ul><ul><li>Estimates in Africa say two in five children under 15 are working as slaves </li></ul><ul><li>Over 240,000 children have been sold as slaves in West Africa to work on coffee, cocoa, and cotton plantation </li></ul><ul><li>1 in 6 African children die before age 5 most deaths can be prevented </li></ul>

Why there is child slaves. <ul><li>Most child labor is caused by poverty and the long-term solution lies in good economic growth leading to social progress </li></ul><ul><li>Some parents give up there child as slaves to support there family </li></ul><ul><li>Often times slave traffickers fool parents into selling there child to get a better education. </li></ul>

I already knew <ul><li>Child slaves are found mostly in west and central Africa </li></ul><ul><li>Some parents don’t choose to give up there children its to support there family or the child could have been stolen </li></ul><ul><li>Some child slaves work for fishers and fix there boats </li></ul><ul><li>Child slaves are found in more places than just Africa </li></ul>
