Agents of Change Manifesto

 1. 1. SE|AoC MANIFESTO ‘‘W e a r e a St a rt- U p’’ Every few years a group of students get the idea to start an entrepreneurs club. But have you seen or heard about them before? No. These clubs, founded upon good intentions, have - without fail, fallen with the founding team. This time it's different. Outlined below is a little rant about how we can avoid the fate that befell our entrepreneurial ancestors. Take heed, and we might just be able to make something that lasts!
 2. 2. PART ONE: Change the World or Go Home. Yes, you read that right. If you're not powered by big dreams and an even bigger heart, you're in the wrong place - this manifesto won't help you. Nothing will. The world is malleable. The world will reconfigure around us. Lucky us. ‘‘Articulate passion. Communicate not benefit, but conviction. Benefit is secondary’’ Benefit is a product of conviction, not vice versa. People want to believe in us and what we do.
 3. 3.

Merit can be bought. Passion can’t.

‘‘ The only people who can change the world are people who want to. And not everybody does’’

When you lack passion, it's easy to give up. When you have it, it's almost impossible to do so.

At the end of the day, passion asks - Do you make this damn thing exist or not?

 4. 4.

PART TWO: Ready. Fire. Aim.

Make Moves... Inertia kills start-ups. Big businesses move slowly. They have size. They have momentum. They will be here tomorrow. We don't. If we don't move. We die.

‘‘ Push things forward by force of will. Don't get hung up on perfect’’

Better to finish five things at 80% than two things at 100%.

Embrace Speed. It's in our blood.

 5. 5. Effectiveness > right . Uni teaches us to focus on being right. That's only half the story. In the real world, RIGHT IS NOT ENOUGH. You've got to be effective. Right sits on a form and gets filed into oblivion. Effective gives the person on the other side something to run with .
 6. 6.

PART THREE: Small is the new Big.

We're not a big business. Let's not act like one. Don't get caught up. Don't get slack. We are a Start-Up. THE RULE OF FIVE - Small teams rock. More then 5 is a headache... Seek out the Driven and Curious.

‘‘ Committees are the only animal with 10 stomachs and no brains’’

Sink or Swim. Failing is always an option . If you want to make something great that is.

 7. 7.

PART FOUR: Talent imitates, Genius Steals.

The line above was stolen. As are most of the words in here. Go with what works. Don't be different just for the sake of it.

Entrepreneurship cannot be taught - but it can be learned.

We are a platform: Set things up. Give people opportunity. Get out of the way!

Put the hours in. Doing anything worthwhile takes forever - the world is full of highly talented, network savvy, failed mediocrities. No Shortcuts.

 8. 8.

Note: This is ongoing. Suggest improvements. Our fate depends on it.

And Smile - it's contagious!
