    1. AUSTRALIA IN 1901- 1914 By James Abraham
    2. Living & Working Conditions
    3. Living
      • Family
      • Religion
      • Income
      • Hygiene
      • Work
      • Entertainment
      • Transport
      • Goods
    4. Family
      • Well this is my family. It is
      • pretty big & I have to feed
      • all of them with the money
      • I earn by working on my farm.
      • It is pretty hard to survive but
      • We make just enough to go on
      • with my life
    5. Religion
      • This is the church in my
      • Home town. We go there
      • every Sabbath. It is a place
      • where I can forget my worries
      • & be happy-talking with my
      • mates & most importantly
      • Jesus.
    6. Income
      • My income as a farmer is not the best. Like I
      • said I make just enough for my
      • family to survive. A big family
      • doesn’t help my income either. It is
      • rather stressful to keep the money
      • Coming. These are hard times for
      • my family & Australia with the new
      • federation & everything.
    7. Hygiene
      • Well I cannot say our hygiene is the best, nor
      • is it the worst compared to
      • the other families. We scarcely
      • have enough water to drink &
      • wash, so we can’t waste it on
      • washing our hands. We were
      • forced to excrete outside & we
      • simply covered it up with mud. It gradually
      • Decomposes, so it doesn’t stink. It is the best we
      • have.
    8. Work
      • My work is not very
      • interesting as the
      • workers in the factories
      • but I do it to feed my
      • family. The only good
      • thing is that I can do work at my own will rather
      • than an employer with a contract. I think I am
      • better than the workers, as I have my free will still
      • intact
    9. Entertainemnt
      • I only entertainment after a good day’s work is
      • the radio. It keeps we calm &
      • relaxed sometimes even
      • refreshed to listen & hear to my
      • favourite programs. It was great
      • fun & kept my family entertainment for the day.
    10. Transport
      • I use a horse named Charlie as my transport to
      • move around the farm. He is
      • good & healthy horse with a
      • lot of energy. He helps me
      • around in my jobs & he lifts
      • my boredom a bit. He is a
      • good companion & friend to
      • me. A very dear one too.
    11. Goods
      • I buy my extra goods in town from the shops.
      • Most of them are my good mates
      • so I often go down there to
      • have a chat or buy so goods.
      • Of course Charlie comes along
      • too as he gets free apples.
    12. Wife
      • My wife is very supportive of me. She does all
      • the household work & takes
      • care of my children why I am
      • working. I don’t know what I
      • will do without her. She is the
      • trunk of my family. A wonderful
      • wife to me & a great mother
      • to my dear children.
    13. Children
      • My children are very dear to me. It spreads joy
      • to the boring & tough life I lead.
      • They make me forget my worries
      • at home & spread joy to my life.
      • I am very lucky to have such
      • Wonderful kids. Very lucky
      • indeed
    14. Lifestyle
      • Breakfast
      • Work
      • Lunch
      • Work
      • Relax
      • Dinner
      • Sleep
    15. Breakfast I get up at 5:30 am. I have a very simple breakfast of egg & toast. That is only what I can afford for my family. It is not much, but it is better than an empty stomach.
    16. Work I work on my farm till about 12 noon. Then I start heading home for my lunch as i am usually famished. Of course Charlie get’s me there before I faint
    17. Lunch This is what I eat for lunch. Again it is not much but it satisfies me more than enough to go on with the rest of my day’s work
    18. Work I return to work on the farm until around 5: 30 pm when I start heading home with a day’s work out of the way with Charlie.
    19. Relaxation I return from work & turn on the radio to relax after a hard day's work. It feels good to rest after a hard day. You get a feeling of satisfaction.
    20. Dinner Dinner is the same as lunch or whatever is left over from it. I just can’t afford to have 3 full meals a day.
    21. Sleep At last I go to sleep at around 9:00 pm & usually fall asleep the movement I touch the bed after a long day’s work.
