What is the Community Technology Center? <ul><li>Three-story, 16,000 square foot renovated facility adjacent to main campus </li></ul><ul><li>Exclusively for community use </li></ul><ul><li>Multi-use training facility equipped with wireless laptops, serving community based organizations and their constituents </li></ul>

Bringing the CTC Concept to Life <ul><li>Ideas + Collaboration + Funding = CTC </li></ul><ul><li>Identified a building to house the CTC </li></ul><ul><li>Pursued programmatic and capital funds in collaboration with our community partners </li></ul><ul><li>Started delivering the programs before the building was renovated (“virtual” CTC) </li></ul><ul><li>Established the CTC facility in 2003 </li></ul>

    8. 8. How has the community benefited from it? <ul><li>#1 Community Access to Technology </li></ul><ul><li>Since our opening in the Fall 2003, more than 40 different organizations have used the CTC regularly. 4 of them have made the CTC their “home” away from home. </li></ul>PANTHER
    9. 9. How has the community benefited from it? <ul><li>#2 - NJ After 3 Training Site </li></ul>NJ After 3 selected the CTC to be their training site for Northern New Jersey.
    10. 10. How has the community benefited from it? <ul><li>#3 Technology Training for Teachers </li></ul><ul><li>For the past 5 years, (even before we moved in to our location) more than 150 teachers logged in more than 5,000 hours of technology training. </li></ul>

How has the community benefited from it? <ul><li>#4 -Computer Basics and Financial Literacy workshops for the community </li></ul><ul><li>Since our opening in the Fall of 2003, more than 600 residents logged in more than 15,000 hours of computer basics and financial literacy training. </li></ul>
    12. 12. How has the community benefited from it? <ul><li>#5 Free Computer Literacy Courses for Senior Citizens </li></ul><ul><li>Since we started this new program, 60 seniors have logged in 800 hours of technology training. </li></ul>

How has the community benefited from it? <ul><li>#6 After School and Summer Camps </li></ul><ul><li>For the past five years we have partnered with faith based after-school providers and Paterson schools to deliver high tech training in multimedia and video editing to more than 300 youth. </li></ul>Alexander Hamilton Academy

How has the community benefited from it? <ul><li>#7 Technology Training for Small Businesses and Non-Profit Staff </li></ul><ul><li>For the past 5 years, (even before we moved in to our location) more than 400 business employees as well as non-profit staff have benefited from technology training. </li></ul><ul><li>In collaboration with William Paterson University SBDC, we conducted more than 30 free business workshops in the past year. </li></ul><ul><li>In the past year alone, 180 business </li></ul><ul><li>owners and entrepreneurs attended </li></ul><ul><li>our workshops. </li></ul>

How has the community benefited from it? <ul><li># 8 Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Training for Public Service Employees </li></ul><ul><li>More than 30 participants representing local fire, police, EMS, and the Paterson Dept. of Health attended GIS training. In the Spring 2006, PCCC began to offer GIS for credit and we are looking into a PCCC / NJCU GIS Certificate. </li></ul>
    17. 17. How Has the Community Benefited from it? <ul><li>#8 Free Citizenship Classes </li></ul><ul><li>This year, we started this new program and so far, 30 soon-to-be U.S. citizens have attended our classes. </li></ul>

How Has the College Benefited from it? <ul><li>Generate tremendous good will in the community </li></ul><ul><li>Fulfill the community outreach aspect of the college mission statement (Middle states citations) </li></ul><ul><li>Increase College-wide experience in community development </li></ul><ul><li>Serve as a test-bed for college programs </li></ul>

Lessons Learned <ul><li>Integrate with Academic Programs – cross collaboration (Director is a faculty member) </li></ul><ul><li>Create opportunities for faculty and students to be involved </li></ul><ul><li>Be flexible - The concept is constantly evolving; stay current with needs of the community </li></ul>
