  • 1. Discussion and Conclusions The average concentration calculated for the strong acid – HCl is 0.074M. The concentrations that produced this result were very precise. The concentration of the weak acid - CH3COOH was chosen as 0.087 (the Gran plot concentration was rejected for being far off). The pH values of Sodium hydroxide neutralising both the HCl and the Acetic acid were not very close. The concentrations determined by both derivative plots were very close: 0.087 and 0.087 for the weak acid and 0.072 and 0.074 for the strong acid. The expected results were within 0.05M for the HCl and 0.10M for the Acetic acid. The Gran plot result for the concentration of the weak acid was rejected for not being precise, however, it is the most accurate value of the three. In the case of the strong acid, the values obtained by all three methods were averaged due to their precision and are considered fairly accurate. It can be concluded that the Gran plot determination of concentration was the most effective method as for both the weak and strong acid, the value obtained was most accurate.
