  1. 1. English Project Work.
  2. 2. is there a need to saveThe reason for this sudden global call to save earth is the destructionthat has changed the face of earth. Problems like global warming, pollution, overuse of minerals, deforestation and natural calamitieslike volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, earthquakes, etc. have causeddestruction on earth.
  3. 3. THE MAJOR CAUSES ARE ASFOLLOWS- POLLUTION DEFORESTATION GLOBAL VARMING
  4. 4. WATER POLLUTIONAIR POLLUTION LAND POLLUTION
  5. 5. DISTRIBUTION OF WATER Available for consumption Frozen in poles Other
  6. 6. • Organic pollution• Agricultural pollution• Runoff, toxic waste• Thermal pollution. EUTROPHICATION.. Undue enrichment of a lake, river etc. with nutrients, resulting in growth of organisms and depletion of oxygen level in water.
  7. 7. More is water pollution more is the pressure on the environment.Waste that come from the sewage plant encourage the growth of algae.Overgrowth of algae water soon becomes algae ridden and oxygen become depleted.
  8. 8. OUR DUTIES1. Lesser the use of water.2. Use less cleansers when washing.3. Never throw rubbish into the sea or river.
  9. 9. 1. Landfills2. Recycling of materials3. Education to the publicFOR A CITIZEN-1. Reuse scrap paper and plastic bag2. Use recycled material
  10. 10. Commercial Traffic Industrial Vehicle Factories Nuisance Air conditioners Others Power stations
  11. 11. Government 1. Planning relocate stationary sources of air pollution away from the main urban areas2. Legislation Air Pollution Control Regulations Air Quality Control Zones3. Monitoring and detection stations to measure the amount of the air pollutants4. Advice and education Free advice Environmental education to citizens Air Pollution Index (API) are provided to publicCitizen1. Improve in engineering2. Report polluting vehicles to the police3. Cut down the use of electricity4.Use mass public transport
  12. 12. What are the Causes of Deforestation? The destruction of the forests is occurring due to various reasons, one of the main reasons being the short term economic benefits. Given below are some more common causes of deforestation:Used for Urban and Construction Purposes: The cutting down of trees for lumber that is used for building materials, furniture, and paper products. Forests are also cleared in order to accommodate expanding urban areas. To Grow Crops: Forests are also cut down in order to clear land for growingcrops. To Create Grazing Land: Forests are cut down in order create land for grazingcattle.Used for Fuel: Trees are cut down in developing countries to be used asfirewood orturned into charcoal, which are used for cooking and heating purposes
  13. 13. *REFORESTATION*LEGISLATION*WILDLIFE SANTUARY*INICIATIVE TO CORPORATES*COMMERCIAL FOREST CORPRATION*WATER MANAGEMENT
  14. 14.  Solar energy Warming of the Earth’s core CO2 levels increasing because warmer oceans release more CO2 In turn global warming could lead to global cooling
  15. 15. YOU NOW HAVE TWO OPTIONS… / /
  16. 16. Energy in our Lives:Energy is essential. We use it forheat, electricity, transportation andmanufacturing. We all need it to staywarm, to cook food and to have light in thenight. We use energy to fuel our airplanesand cars and we use it to make things infactories. Everything from peanut butterto plastic bottles, from T-shirts to cellphones takes a lot of energy to make. Where does the worlds, energy come from today? Over 85% of it comes from fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas. The rest comes from many other sources like wind, water, radioactive atoms and the sun.
  17. 17. Are Humans Causing the Climate toChange? 98% of greenhouse gas emissions are natural 2% are from man-made sources Warmed slightly in the last 100 years, 70% of warming occurred prior to 1940
  18. 18.  Drive efficient vehicle Drive less Buy energy efficient appliances Use compact florescent light bulbs (CFL) Weatherize your home Choose renewable sources of energy
  19. 19.  Unplug unused equipments Turn off the lights Set computers to sleep when not in use Take control of temperature Use appliances efficiently
