7. TASK 2: MAGNUM PHOTOS
Portrait
Mid-shot
Man is sat next to a grenade
Tim Hetherington
I chose this because it has an
effect on me because grenades
can do devastating damage and
the man doesn't seem like he
cares. It is almost like he has
seen too much violence
because of his army cloths it
shows he was a solider and
maybe he had no education or
the army and violence was his
education and he has the
grenade because he has had
enough of all the violence and
he wants the fighting to stop.
8. TASK 2: LIFE TIME
Photojournalism
Long-shot
Phil Stern
Troops advancing through the
streets of Comiso,
I chose this because it shows
armed troops walking past an
elderly man as if he wasn’t
there, like he didn’t matter
which is sad because he
probably doesn’t like these
random soldiers walking
through his home town.
9. TASK 2: PHOTOGRAPHY NATIONAL
Abstract/aerial
Long shot
Aerial shot over mountains
Garth Lenz
I chose this picture because it shows landscape that is uninhabited, uncharted territory
things yet to be discovered, untarnished by humans. This place still has all of its
original beauty and I love to see places like this because it shows me that there are
things that places isolated from people.
10. TASK 2: PHOTOGRAPHY NATIONAL
Landscape
Long shot
Garth Lenz
mines, in Northern Alberta, Canada.
I chose this photo because it is a complete contrast to my previous chose. In this photo it
shows mans achievement about traveling to the furthest reaches of places such as northern
Canada somewhere people 100 years ago thought would be inhabitable but now there are
full oil rig set ups venturing into the unknown down below. All of this impresses me and I
would like to have a contrast of pictures and I think this one and the one before it does this
very well.
11. TASK 2: MAGNUM PHOTOS
Landscape/aerial
Long shot
Michael Christopher Brown
Aerial view of the shoreline of Lake Albert
I chose this picture because this looks like such a tranquilly place from above
from what the photo shows us but to go down there would be a very big mistake
because of the war down in central Africa. “Most days of the week, pilots
transport U.S. Special Forces and supplies from Uganda to South Sudan and
Central African Republic”
12. TASK 3: THE PHOTOGRAPHER
Garth Lenz
He works at national geographic primarily but he accept assignments all around the world.
His photos have been taken all around the world because has the funding from his company to
go there for free and take these stunning images.
Lives in Canada, and he is mainly focusing on the oil spills in the southern part of Canada.
A quote “my aim was for the public to see my pictures and grasp the scale of the devastation. ”
