Palla vi movie review

  1. 1. PALLAVI KADAM, FYBFM, ROLL NO. 118, CHETANA’S SELF, FINANCING COURSEMOVIE REVIEW OF SAATCHYA AATGHARAT….. Our elders said……. “Be back home by 7 in the evening”This meant a whole a lot of values, moral discipline, loveand protection, a feeling of safety… The movie is partly based upon trueincident that occurred in 2002 in the University of PuneCampus. It is a movie about young friends. They haddecided about what to become in future. They were fromdifferent backgrounds and different religious to completetheir studies. There is a generation that rejects
  2. 2. traditional values and pushes limits in the quest of being“modern”. The protagonist of the story is nandini“nandu”. On one night they all went for valentine’s partyand remained till late night. Nandini and her boyfriendAniket, slip away from the crowed at a rave they wereattending, and find an isolated place to get cozy. As theywere getting intimate, a cop arrived on the scene anddemanded to see their ID cards. Then cops told him toleave the girl (nandu) and ordered him to go and get hisid card. Flustered, Aniket left the scene, rushed home, and got his id and returned to the place where he hadleft the cop with Nandu. He found her there alone, badlybruised and sobbing. She had been raped by the cop. Hetook it to the hospital for treatment, but her ordeal wasjust beginning. After that day the Pune society wasstirred and outraged by the incident. Their pent-upfrustration at western culture and its influence on theirchildren was taken out on nandini, who was critised forinviting the trouble upon herself by wearing sexy clothingthat showed too much skin. She was expelled from theuniversity and allowed only to apper for the final exams.
  3. 3. Her hostel landlady kicked her out, as other parentsexpressed concern that her living there would be a badinfluence on their girls. Her boyfriend was as much traumatised by the event, andhe broke off the relationship saying that he could’nt dealwith it, and that even if he did, his parents would neveraccept her. Eventually the cop responsible for the rapewas identically and arrested , at the trial he didn’t seemat all remorseful, saying that she asked for it, being at alonely place at a night with scanty clothing on. “ I washungry, and she was a plate of food laying uncovered…”I got the feeling that the movie director was trying tomake the point that society can avoid such depravity bysticking to its traditional values-which I disagree with, even I though I have traditional values myself. Nandiniwas not raped by ones, but twice; the second time by thesocieties unfair expectations of woman, while the copgot away with a mere slap on the wrist. At the end of the movie, Nandu’s friend Priya’sgrandmother comments that Ramayana is repeated inevery generation.
