North British Pain Association
Desc: The North British Pain Association was founded in 1984 and consists of over 200 members from Scotland and the North of England. Membership consists of doctors working in pain or palliative care and nurses, physiotherapis ts, psychologists and others with an interest in pain management. There is normally an Annual Scientific Meeting in May which is held in central Scotland - for the past few years in Edinburgh and this usually attracts an audience of between 70 to 100. A more recent innovation is a winter meeting in December which again has been held in Edinburgh. This meeting has been of a more practical nature and has also been well supported. All our meetings are approved by the Royal College of Anaesthetists for CME credits. Other activities of the Association include support for members through travel grants and research grants and also efforts to encourage a greater awareness of the importance of pain management in political and managerial circles. There is an annual prize competition for trainees and a newsletter "Threshold" which is published twice a year.
