The  Global  Environment  Facility   ¤  ¤  ¤  Financial  mechanism  unites  182  member  governments  —  in  partnership   with  international  institutions,  nongovernmental  organizations,  the  civil   society  and  the  private  sector  -­‐  to  address  global  environmental  issues.   Born  in  1991,  today  the  GEF  is  the  largest  public  funder  of  projects  to   improve  the  global  environment.     An  independently  operating  financial  organization,  the  GEF  provides   grants  for  projects  related  to  different  focal  areas:  biodiversity,  climate   change,  international  waters,  land  degradation,  and  persistent   organic  pollutants.      In  more  than  20  years  GEF  International  Waters   have  created  an  enormous  amount  of   knowledge…

IW  LEARN  Project  (2011-­‐2014)   “Strengthening  IW  Portfolio  Delivery  and  Impact”   International  Waters     Learning     Exchange     And     Resource     Network   Unique  initiative  in  the  GEF   portfolio   Strong  focus  on  groundwater       Goals:     ¤ To  strengthen  Transboundary  Waters  Management  (TWM)  by  facilitating   portfolio  learning  and  information/knowlegde  management  amongst  GEF  IW   projects  and  partners  and  by  providing  a  series  of  services  to  facilitate  this  exchange   ¤ IWLEARN.NET  supports  knowledge  sharing  in  the  GEF  IW  portfolio  and  contains   project-­‐related  information,  contacts,  documents,  e.g.  case  studies,  Transboundary   Diagnostic  Analyses,  Strategic  Action  Programmes,  news  and  events.
