What is ESINET?
Launched in July 2002, ESINET is
the European network of incubators and innovation centers involved in space related activities

Ambitions of the ESINET incubators Capitalise on space developments to create economic development Support the creation and growth of SMEs downstream satellite systems Foster domino effects between regional users for the development of new satellite-based services
Telecommunications, Navigation, Geo-localisation, Earth observation Programmes : huge opportunities for the development of new ground-based businesses
=> More than 1 million of jobs created in the US in relation with the GPS services deployment
Major economic development at stake in the space related area
Major economic development at stake in the space related area (ctd)
With the advent of powerful handheld terminals and the demand for ubiquitous services, info-mobility applications will reveal new sources of business in the years ahead.
Environment monitoring and timing applications will also bring strong market opportunities.
Need is to capture this growth potential :
The deal flow of innovative projects from across all European countries must be harnessed and effectively channelled into these promising markets
Current and future challenges to be dealt with by local and regional authorities are of global or inter regional concern
Water resources management
Coastal mangement
Emergency response
Energy networks
Air quality control
Etc…
Regional users are potential major beneficiaries of EO-services… Earth Observation technologies will increasingly contribute to integrated territorial management systems
… but the GMES commercial offer is fragmented
Many services are developped on a case to case basis to answer the specific needs of a small number of consumers
Niche market businesses undertaken by (micro-) SMEs with low dissemination potential
Still little knowledge & access to EO-based services by regional users
Synergies are now to be searched for to take the best from satellite-based services
NAVOBS+ project : An EC funded Specific Support Action relying on Esinet Stimulates SME for the search of innovative applications Helps SMEs in submitting R&D projects to EC funding Is an interface with major space players and final users Is fostering multi national partnerships for the building up of European critical mass offers A growing network of more than 250 players
Quick look at the European GMES initiative G lobal M onitoring for E nvironment and S ecurity Interoperable, ubiquitous, accessible information relying on space and in situ data Operational services to end users The EC is supporting the development of GMES services by the launch of call for proposals in the frame of 7 th Framework Programme
NAVOBS+ is supporting SMEs wishing to take forthcoming opportunities offered by the next FP7 Space Call
5 major application domains of GMES services identified by the European Commission :
Ocean
Land
Emergency response
Atmosphere
Security
Call opening July-Nov. 2008 Small collaborative projects +- 35 M€ for GMES topics Regional users are welcome to express their needs and participate as pilot users of new GMES services !
Today, the markets of navigation, datation, geo-localisation and environmental monitoring are booming
Future steps undertaken by Navobs+ partners to help regional users becoming major beneficiaries of GMES services :
Map and network existing regional users and the associated services providers
Aggregate the needs
Foster domino effects from one region to another
Build a critical mass of demands for future new applications
Conclusions
NAVOBS+ partners 14 Business development specialists 9 Regional Incubators 4 expert companies
