This is the same password you use when logging onto the internet on a school PC.
Please let the TSO if you don’t know this or have forgotten it.
NOTE – you MUST ALWAYS type in
@DETNSW after your username and in capitals
Only YOU can log onto your laptop with YOUR Username and Password. No one else can.
Therefore, it is vitally important that you...
DO NOT SHARE OR TELL ANY OTHER STUDENT YOUR USERNAME AND PASSWORD.
The TSO can also logon to your laptop and have full access to it.
You are responsible for ALL DATA that is on your laptop. It doesn’t matter if you put it there or not. Be aware of this as any defamatory or derogatory documents or images will not be tolerated. Disciplinary procedures will be enforced. Which may mean that you lose your laptop.
MyLocker is a folder on your Laptop that is duplicated on the main fileserver for the DER wireless network. Any data files you save in the MyLocker area will be synchronised and saved on the fileserver as well.
If you are Offline at home working, any changes you make to files or new files created will be synchronised the next time you logon to your laptop at school, within the wireless network range.
You will need to double-click on the MyLocker icon to setup the locker on the server.
Click on the “Sync Now” button once the MyLocker window appears.
When finished, click on OK.
Please tell the TSO if you don’t have a MyLocker icon on your desktop NOW, so that it can be fixed.

ALL Classrooms at Griffith High School are supported by wireless access points.
You are even able to receive a signal from the grounds of the high school (remember to keep laptops safe from playground activities)
Ensure that the wireless connection on your laptop is switched ON
The wireless connection is turned off and on by a dedicated function key combination. Which is Fn/F5. Press the Fn key and keep it pressed and then press the F5 key.
For all support issues – please see the TSO, either before class in the morning, during recess, lunch time or after school.
The TSO is available from 8.30am to 4pm in B1.
If your laptop needs to be sent away for warranty or non-warranty repairs, then a “on loan” laptop will be available to you. This laptop will be exactly the same as your original laptop and will need to be returned when your original laptop has been repaired and returned to the TSO.
The use of an external mouse, keyboard and monitor is recommended for extended usage at home. All of which can be connected to the laptop by using the appropriate connections. USB for mouse and keyboard and the monitor connection for an external monitor.
Make sure the battery is charged at home at night. DO NOT BRING YOUR POWER CORDS TO SCHOOL – THIS IS NOT PERMITTED.
If you were unable to charge your battery overnight due to power outage – then see the TSO when you arrive at school in the morning.
Ensure that the battery is always locked into the laptop – otherwise it may fall out.
Before putting the laptop back in the hard case – ensure it is shutdown completely and not in sleep/standby mode.
If the laptop is still in standby mode and placed in the case – it will overheat and destroy the CPU. This will be regarded as negligence and repairs will need to be paid for by your parents/guardian.
You do NOT own your laptop. All DER laptops are owned by the school TSO. The only time you take full ownership of your laptop is when you have completed Year 12.
This means that any breach of the laptop user charter, could result in the school teachers confiscating your laptop and you losing the privilege of using the laptop at school or having to leave it at school and not take it home.
When you log onto the school wireless system, your laptop will automatically download any Microsoft updates as well as updates from DER to make sure the laptop continues to perform correctly.
If your laptop breaks at ANY time. No matter how old the laptop is. The replacement laptop will ALWAYS be exactly the same colour and specification of the original laptop.
This means that if you break your laptop, you WILL NOT BE GIVEN THE LATEST MODEL AS A REPLACEMENT. The replacement will be the same as the laptop it is replacing.
Depending on the circumstances, replacement will only be at the Principal’s discretion.
When connecting external peripherals to the laptop, such as a printer, or an external CD/DVD drive/ Hard drive – ensure that these peripherals are Microsoft compatible plug-and-play. This ensures that no software will need to be installed on the laptop and the hardware will just work properly.
Using non-school wireless
Telstra 3G wireless internet or any internet connection that requires the use of a USB modem will not work with the laptop.
Free Wireless at Motels, McDonalds, Local Library etc
All your internet surfing is tracked and recorded in Sydney on a file server. These records can be accessed at any time.
Should you try to perform any hacking - this is also recorded and the TSO will be notified and your laptop will be taken from you. Hacking is also a criminal offence, so the police may also be involved.
Remember that YOU and your Parent/Guardian have signed a legal binding document – being the laptop user charter and as such have agreed to follow the policies of this charter. Any breach of this charter will mean that you WILL LOSE your laptop.
For serious breaches the Police may also be involved.
