in getting involved and giving back to the
community, Dr. Thwaites has been an active
participant in the non-profit Brain Injury
Alliance of Colorado (BIAC), an organization
that aims to help survivors of brain injuries
access resources that will improve the
rehabilitation process and their quality of life.

The BIAC is heavily involved in organizing
regional conferences that seek to bring
together survivors of brain injuries as well as
their support providers, including
family, caregivers, therapists, and medical
professionals. Topics discussed at recent
conferences include legal help for
survivors, returning to school and work after a
brain injury or using mobile assistive
technology in everyday life, and rehabilitation
options for patients suffering from language
deficits after sustaining brain injuries.

Dr. Gregory Thwaites was a former chair of the
BIAC conference committee and also sat on its
board of directors. He won an Outstanding
Professional Award for his services in 1997.
