For qualified Veteran or Surviving Spouse
Three progressive benefit levels:
1 st benefit amount based on household income
2 nd benefit amount based on housebound status
3 rd benefit amount based on aid & attendance need
What is the va benefit? Note: Benefit will affect Medicaid eligibility but not Medicare.
Who is eligible?
Veteran served at least 90 days or more of active duty with at least 1 day during a stated period of war time & honorably discharged.
Claimant is housebound (unable to drive)
Claimant has a documented medical condition that indicates they need the permanent assistance of another individual with their primary ADL’s* (activities of daily living) to safely maintain their quality of life.
Liquid Assets must not exceed $70,000
Countable (Adjusted) Income is below a yearly limit set each year by law.
*Primary ADL’s are bathing, grooming, dressing, needs of nature, hygiene, eating
World War I April 6, 1917 - November 11, 1918
World War II December 7, 1941 - December 31, 1946
Korean Conflict June 27, 1950 - January 31, 1955
Vietnam Era August 5, 1964 - May 7, 1975 If “in-country” before 8/5/64: then,
February 28, 1961 – May 7, 1975
Persian Gulf August 2, 1990 though date to be set
Stated periods of war time

Veteran $1,644 per Month
Veteran + Spouse $1,949 per Month
Surviving Spouse $1,057 per Month
