The aid and attendance benefit is one of the VA's best kept secrets. It is formally known as the Non-Service Connected Improved Disability Pension with Aid and Attendance Entitlement.

  5. 5. Financial Assistance for Veterans and Surviving Spouses VA Aid and Attendance Pension Benefit Qualification and Eligibility NOTE: Veterans Care Advisors is not part of nor affiliated with the VA in any manner.
  6. 6. <ul><li>Non-service connected permanent disability </li></ul><ul><li>pension benefit. </li></ul><ul><li>For qualified Veteran or Surviving Spouse </li></ul><ul><li>Three progressive benefit levels: </li></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>1 st benefit amount based on household income </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>2 nd benefit amount based on housebound status </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>3 rd benefit amount based on aid & attendance need </li></ul></ul></ul>What is the va benefit? Note: Benefit will affect Medicaid eligibility but not Medicare.

Who is eligible? <ul><li>Veteran served at least 90 days or more of active duty with at least 1 day during a stated period of war time & honorably discharged. </li></ul><ul><li>Claimant is housebound (unable to drive) </li></ul><ul><li>Claimant has a documented medical condition that indicates they need the permanent assistance of another individual with their primary ADL’s* (activities of daily living) to safely maintain their quality of life. </li></ul><ul><li>Liquid Assets must not exceed $70,000 </li></ul><ul><li>Countable (Adjusted) Income is below a yearly limit set each year by law. </li></ul><ul><li>*Primary ADL’s are bathing, grooming, dressing, needs of nature, hygiene, eating </li></ul>
