  • Welcome to Google: A look inside the bubble.
  • For Google the big picture is giving users the best experience on the web. From online searches, web browsing, and email hosting the goal has remained the same, to create technology that works intuitively together so you can always access the same information anywhere and share with anyone.
  • Larry Page and Sergey Brin met at StanfordUniversity in the late 90s. Together they created a search engine originally called BackRub. From BackRub, Google was born. The name “Google,” is a play on the word “googol,” the mathematical term for a 1 followed by 100 zeros. Google Inc. was born in 1998, when Sun co-founder Andy Bechtolsheim wrote a check for $100,000 to that entity—which until then didn’t exist. (Google)
  • Eric Schmidt has been CEO and is now Executive Chairman at Google since 2001. During that time Schmidt focused on building the corporate infrastructure needed to maintain Google's rapid growth as a company (The Wall Street Journal). Co-founderLarry Page, the original CEO of Google has now assumed the position again leading the charge on projects such as connecting whole cities to the Internet through fiber optic cables (Business Insider).
  • The Google Ecosystem is comprised by several applications with the goal of being accessible from anywhere at any time. Lets take a look at a few apps that has kept Google at the top of it’s game.
  • With the goal of being the perfect search engine that “understands what you mean and gives you back exactly what you want (Google). Google’s search engine is accessed by over 12.4 billion (comScore) users monthly. Google achieves this by making their search experience as easy as possible for anyone to find the information you need to get things done.
  • Google’s Gmail email client has surpassed all of it’s competitors by providing options that improves the user experience by sorting emails that is considered priority and offering tools that help you unsubscribe from those unwanted mailing lists you receive via email (Smith).
  • Since its debut a few years ago the Google Chrome Web Brower has being embraced by technophiles and average computer owners alike. Featuring a search in the address bar, Chrome has set the new benchmark for the web browsing experience (w3sschools).
  • With over 200 million users, Google maps is recognizedas the most used map and navigation application, Google Maps has revolutionized location searching on the web by integrating real-time locations and images (Google).
  • Jumping in the mobile device arena Google’s Android Mobile Phone Operating System has been positively received by providing developers an open source platform to develop powerful smart phones and tablets that serves as an alternative to the competition.
  • Since it’s debut, the Android OS has grown to over 100 million devices activated which phone carriers reporting close to 400,00 devices activated daily worldwide in over 112 counties. The Android App Store Play has seen over 4.5 billion apps installed total (Techfever).
  • You Tube has been a internet phenomenon. It appeals to every age group with more than 1billion unique visits each month. With You Tube users and share, edit, and view videos from all over the world.
  • As with most companies that grow, Google had to establish a way to produce revenue in order to continue growing and prosper as a technical giant.
  • What gives Google the power to make strives in technology is their ability to make revenue in advertising. In 2011 alone, Google made over $37.1 Billion dollars in advertising dollars which was over 96% of all total revenue that year for Google (Venture Beat).
  • To better understand who paying those dollars to Google, we can see here some well known companies who depend on Google to make sure their name and products have a presence in searches on the web (Venture Beat).
  • One of Google’s Strategic Plans is the implementation of Google +. With Google +, the company’s foray into connecting the social network. Google wants to create a social layer with all their products such as You Tube and Google Search. The goal is to have users recommend videos and searches to other users who are connected on the platform (Google, Taylor).
  • Google’s Long Term Plan;Since Larry Page’s return as CEO of Google, they have had a renewed focus on Investing in innovation, developing products that appeal to every interest, and continuing development on the Android OS platform (Google).
  • At 15 years young Google is calling it’s own shots and creating a path for technological innovation. With the development of Google Glass, the company is hoping the dawn of the wearable computer will culminate Google’s ultimate goal: in addition to the core functions of taking photos and videos, Google sees this as a device wear the user can make and receive phone calls, get directions, and search for information (Kelleher).
  • Google is using technology to become a extension of what we do in our lives. Google is essentially a user’s digital assistant, providing user with what they need even before they needed it. While making ad-revenue is what brings dollars into the company, what Google is giving back to the world innovation that can benefit everyone. From translating foreign language via the search engine to beaming audio and video to emergency officials when you are distress, the possibilities are exciting (Shankland).
