    1. Getting Started
      • Browse to: mymacewan.ca
      • Login with MacEwan credentials
      • Click the “Faculty” tab
      • Web + log = Blog
        • “ Blogs in Plain English ”
      • WordPress is a blogging tool
      • Emphasis on easy content managment
        • Text
        • Images
        • Documents to be downloaded
        • Links to other web pages and resources
      • PAGES
      • Like a standard web page
      • Content will not change often
      • Hierarchical
        • My Pets
          • My Cat
          • My Dogs
            • Fido
            • Rover
      • POSTS
      • New content added over time
      • i.e. Thoughts on a topic, progress updates
      • Accumulate with most recent at the top
      • Categorized and can be viewed by category
      • WEBSITE
      • Pages are most important with the option of adding posts.
      • We’ll need to reconfigure the site so that pages are most prominent
      • BLOG
      • Posts are the most important with the option of adding a few pages
      • WordPress comes like this “out of the box”

      • All themes are appropriate if you choose to emphasize blogging.

      • To access the Dashboard, you’ll need to browse to:
      • <<Site name>>/wp-admin/
      • Blog Title
      • Tagline
      • Timezone
      • Date Format
      • Time Format
      • Week Starts On
      • Pages | Add New
      • Title
      • Rich Text Editor
      • Publish Area
      • Page Parent
      • Add text to a new page using the “Paste from Word” button
      • Evaluate the results
      • Add images
        • Demo: add and image to a page
      • Links to web-based video
      • Links to audio files
      • Add documents
        • Demo: Upload a PDF file to the server and make a link to it
      • Add two new Pages
      • Add at least one page “under” each of those two pages
      • Add an image to an existing page
      • Add a document to the Media Library file1.pdf
      • Add a link to that document on a page
      • Add link to an external web page, e.g.
        • http://www.macewan.ca
      • Posts | Add New
      • Categories
      • Tags
      • Add two new categories
      • Add two posts to each of the two categories
      • Add tags to each of the posts
      • See how the posts, categories and tags display on your site
      • Discussion
        • Default article settings
        • Other comment settings
        • E-mail me whenever
        • Before a comment appears
        • Comment Moderation

        • Decide if you want your web site to be picked up by search engines
      • Permalinks
        • Jury is out on this one. Leave as is for now
      • Add a new Page titled “Home”
        • This will be the first page people see
      • Add a new Page that will contain your posts
        • Suggested titles
          • “ My Blog”
          • “ What’s New”
          • “ Random Thoughts”
      Ignore this if you’ve chosen “Pride” or “8some”
      • Tell WordPress what to display as a “Front page”
        • Settings | Reading
        • Front page displays: choose “A static page”
          • Front Page: “Home”
          • Posts Page: “My Blog” or “What’s New”
      • Make the duplicate “Home” page invisible
        • We need to use a plugin to do this:
          • Dashboard | Plugins | Advanced Category Excluder
          • Click “Activate”
        • Dashboard | ACE | Pages
          • Select Home in all columns
          • Click “Doit!”
      • Reorder your Pages
        • For each page assign a number in the “Order” field in the “Attributes” section
          • Low Number = left
          • High Number = right
        • (A new Plugin is coming that will make this reordering far more intuitive.)
      • Links | Add New
        • Link Name
        • Web Address
        • Description (optional but recommended)
        • Assign a Category
          • Add a new category if necessary
        • Target (new window is best)
        • Click Add Link to save
      • Add two new categories
      • Add at least two links to each category
