  1. 1. How to Apply for the “Google for Nonprofits” Program WWW.GRANTS4ADS.COM
  2. 2. Google for Nonprofits is Google’s program that provides free services and tools for 501(c)3 organizations. This tutorial will show you how your nonprofit can apply for the Google for Nonprofits program.
  3. 3. There are six Google Products that are part of the Google for Nonprofits program: #1: Google Apps for Nonprofits #2: Google Grants #3: YouTube for Nonprofits #4: Google Maps API #5: Google Earth Pro #6: One Today
  4. 4. Google Apps for Nonprofits includes Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets & Slides. A version of these services are available for free for, however Google has a Commercial version, or Business version of these products that are paid services. With the Google for Nonprofits Program your 501(c)3 will receive these upgrades for free.
  5. 5. Google Grants for Adwords is the nonprofit edition of AdWords, Google’s online advertising tool. Your nonprofit can use up to $10,000 of free in-kind adwords advertising to promote your mission, gain new donors, engage the community, and raise awareness for your cause. This, in our opinion, is the most valuable tool available to nonprofits through the Google for Nonprofits program
  6. 6. YouTube for Nonprofits is the enriched version of You Tube that is available with the G4NP program, your nonprofit can create customized video channels, add a call to action overlay on your videos and include a “Donate” button next to your videos.
  7. 7. Google Earth Outreach & Google Maps API: Once you are accepted into the Google for Nonprofits program, your charity is eligible to use Google Earth Professional Version, and Google Maps to create custom maps of your project sites, create a narrative Google Earth movie and make it available on YouTube and host geospatial data online.
  8. 8. One Today A mobile app that presents one nonprofit each day, soliciting $1 donations for your nonprofit. One Today: Google mobile Android app which promotes a different charity every day, and enables app users to donate $1 with a simple click to the charities of their choice
  9. 9. The first step in applying for the Google for Nonprofits program is to review the eligibility requirements. Google for Nonprofits is currently available in the US and the UK. However Google Grants are available in 28 countries. Requirements for nonprofits based in the US: 1. Your nonprofit must hold current 501(c)3 status, as determined by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service 2. Must acknowledge and agree to the terms regarding nondiscrimination and donation receipt and use
  10. 10.  Hold current 501(c)3 status, as determined by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service  Acknowledge and agree to the application's required certifications regarding nondiscrimination and donation receipt and use. Eligibility Requirements for the US:
  11. 11. To apply go to: www.google.com/nonprofits Then click on “Join the Program.
  12. 12. X X X XX-XXXXXXX On the first page of the application form, you must read & agree to the program’s terms and conditions, and then enter your nonprofit’s EIN or Tax ID.
  13. 13. On page one of the application form you will enter the name & address of your nonprofit, your phone number and website address. You will then need to choose your nonprofit type from the drop down list provided by Google. You will need to choose one of these categories – and there is no option for “Other” or a place to enter another type of nonprofit. Your nonprofit may also fit into multiple categories – but in that case you need to choose the category that best describes your overall mission. And then finally you will add your mission statement. Google asks that you “briefly describe the nature of your organization, your activities, your clientele and the locations of the services you provide.”

For the communications preferences – these are opt-in choices – in other words you do not have to check these boxes – only check them if you want to receive updates and news from Google for Nonprofits, or if you want to have your charity listed online as being a member of Google for Nonprofits. Click “Submit Application” – and you are done.
