  • For the first time I will be giving a funeral sermon not in a funeral service but in a place where everyone appears to be
Today and tomorrow most Filipinos will visit their departed loved ones and maybe some of us will just do that
But instead of focusing of our dead loved ones I would like to focus on… ourselves in the light of death
  • When was the last you talked about death… your death
    “Ano ka ba dyan?”
Morbid (we don not talk about it especially that of our loved ones
But the truth is death is very real and the observance of all souls day is a clear proof
    Let’s talk about death
  • Things that are certain, TAXES, BILLS, DEATH
    Genesis 2:16-17 “Surely die”
300,000 people die daily, 12,500 per hour, 208 per second
Even with the best diet, supplements, exercise, death is sure to come
Food business and funeral is a good business
  • Your death?
    Illustration (Family Friend Spencer)
Song: I am not ready to die
  • Background of the passage
In any religious background, whether you believe in God or not, death is always painful because there is so much grief
Whether you lived life to the fullest or not, those whom we will leave behind will mourn
Death can only come in other forms (relationship, money, dreams, etc.)
here is no right or wrong way to grieve — but there are healthy ways to cope with the pain. You can get through it! Grief that is expressed and experienced has a potential for healing that eventually can strengthen and enrich life.
  • There is no right or wrong way to grieve — but there are healthy ways to cope with the pain. You can get through it! Grief that is expressed and experienced has a potential for healing that eventually can strengthen and enrich life.
There is a kind of grieving which has hope
Illistration: Mom Will see you again
  • The greatest enemy to man’s happiness. (I’ve been to funeral services that the service was stalled due to great grief)
The less closure there is the more grief there seems, when there is closure the more peaceful it seems
The victory is death, death will not have the final say.
    Death in not permanent
  • Preparation for those who will be left behind (creates confusion)
Material, relationships, experiences, live life to fullest. priorities,
Grieve if you may, but hope you must
    3. The experience of death can propel to greater heights with God
