GPUAC Capacity Building Workshops - Presentation Transcript

    1. GPUAC’s Capacity Building Approach to Enhance Organizational Health … Building and Strengthening the capacity of our Program Partners to “get it done on the ground!”
    2. Introduction GPUAC is pleased to present our capacity building workshop series, designed to continue our commitment to building and strengthening the capacity of our program partners. As we work together to improve the quality of life in our communities, we are offering a variety of workshops to program partners free-of-charge from late- February through June 30, 2009, geared towards improving overall organizational health and program quality. This work is supported by a grant from the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania!
    3. SURVEY SAYS….
        • Last summer many of you completed a survey about what you do, who you serve, and what you need. You offered many suggestions about how we could do our jobs better – and what you would like to have from us.
        • We have reviewed all of this information and will be launching a variety of new initiatives over the next 6-months in direct response to the information you so graciously provided.
        • We also recognize in a broader sense that grassroots leaders and their communities face an uncertain future in the current funding environment, as non-profit organizations increasingly must demonstrate impact to compete for funding. This can be a challenge for grassroots organizations, which struggle to implement evaluation plans and systems to demonstrate the positive impact of their work. GPUAC is uniquely positioned to offer these resources.
      • WE HEARD YOU AND
      • WE ARE RESPONDING!!!
      • SURVEY SAYS (continued)…
      • The vast majority of GPUAC program partners (80%) cited FUNDING as a primary need!
        • Programs also cited the need for help and/ or training in the following areas:
            • Fiscal management/ accounting
            • Staff recruitment/ retention
            • Public Relations/ Marketing
            • Community/ Parent Involvement
            • Mission/ Vision/ Strategic Plan
            • Data collection and evaluation planning
      • CAPACITY BUILDING PROJECT GOALS:
          • Enhance program partners’ structural health
          • Help program partners track their performance and evaluate their impact.
          • Ensure the continued sustainability and “fundability” of our grassroots program partners
          • Improve the relationship and collaboration between GPUAC staff and program partners
    4. THE GPUAC CAPACITY BUILDING FRAMEWORK…..
      • Based on the Standards of Excellence put forth by the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations (PANO), a statewide membership organization that serves and advances the charitable nonprofit sector through leadership, advocacy, programs and services in order to improve the quality of life in Pennsylvania.
      • GPUAC has adopted PANO’s Standards for Excellence, which is a well recognized and respected ethics and accountability code for the nonprofit sector.

    9. What’s in it for me?...Understanding the Value in the GPUAC Valley
      • Did we forget to mention that these workshops are FREE? ! Similar workshops offered through other local venues could run you or your agency anywhere from $89 per session on the very low end up to several thousands of $$$$$!
      • We offer a cost-effective and high-quality alternative, which is specifically tailored to GPUAC program partners and the grassroots community overall .
      • All of our workshop facilitators bring a wealth of knowledge and “real world experience” to the table. In fact, many of our workshop facilitators are experienced university or college instructors with substantial content expertise in the PANO Standards of Excellence areas.
      • Convenience! Many of you have offices in the building or close by. All workshops will be offered on-site in the 4 th floor conference room and most are scheduled to be 2 hours or less, allowing you the flexibility and the time to continue getting it done on the ground!
      • Don’t you want your organization to survive the test of time? Did we also forget to mention funding and sustainability? As you are fully aware, funding streams are drying up and funders are expecting programs to demonstrate quality, sound organizational health, and outcomes!
      • GPUAC is here to help; and we are firmly committed to providing you the support you need and that funders expect!
What’s in it for me?...Understanding the Value in the GPUAC Valley (continued)
