  • Active SystemsThe Active System Compatibility Matrix helps you address your unique concerns — on your own, or with the assistance of Dell Consulting Services. It provides guidance on the Dell enterprise products and components, as well as 3rd party components, that are engineered and best suited for converged infrastructure. In addition to the pre-integrated Active Systems and respective reference architectures mentioned previously, Dell has validated 3rd party components including the Cisco Nexus 5k (5548) switch and Brocade 6510 SAN switch. Dell will make additional investments in validating 3rd party infrastructure per customer requirements. Custom integration options are also available through Dell services.
  • The following are representative VMware-related functions that can be invoked from the ASMOperations Center, through its vCenter integration:• Start or provision a VM• Suspend or resume a VM• Power on or power off a VM• Add or remove hosts from VM clusters• Perform vNIC network settings• Create vSwitch port group• Snapshot and Revert Snapshot a VM• Relocate VM from one host to another• Scale VM by adding additional server or storage capacity• Connect to a running VM using VNC, RDP, OpenSSH, or other methods• Create datastores• View datastore usage• View host usage and capacity utilization for CPU and memory• Invoke custom operations, depending on resource adapter capabilities and availablecustomizations.
  • [Example UseCase to for Active System Manager and VDI]Once the IT admin schedules the template Active System Manager invokes the orchestration to deploy and configure the cluster. In our example, first, the VMware View cluster is created to host the View Components. Next the cluster to host the user desktop pool is deployed and configured. With just a couple of clicks and only minutes of the IT admins time the physical and virtual infrastructure is deployed and configured. The IT admin then deploys and configures the VMware View components to complete the VDI deployment and enable users to connect to the environment.
