  • 22nd most visited website in the world LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional social networking platform. It is an interconnected network of experienced professionals.
  • There are more than X million students and recent grads on LinkedIn globally. It’s our fastest growing audience and one of our most engaged. We aren’t the only ones seeing the growth, other analysts are seeing it too. The Achievers recently published data last year saying that “Compared to two years ago, the number of students using LinkedIn to find job opportunities has increased by 700%”DATA:“Compared to two years ago, the number of college students using LinkedIn to find job opportunities has increased by 700%.”Experience and Achievers surveyed nearly 8,000 soon-to-be college graduates of 2012 and 2013. • Professionals find great value in LinkedIn, they join, engage and invite others to join, and this making LinkedIn the largest global professional network. With every invitation, the network keeps growing…… extremely fast. We currently have over 150+ million members in over 200 countries and territories around the world. Professionals are signing up to join LinkedIn at a rate that is faster than two new members per second. You can find executives from all Fortune 500 companies that are LinkedIn members.

  • Your Homepage provides you with an overview of what is going on in your network with Network Updates. You’ll find things such as your connections status, groups they have recently joined, questions asked and answered, and who your network has recently connected to. Your status message allows you to display professional updates to your network. By displaying things such as what you’re currently working on, and where you’re planning to travel to, etc., you invite your network to help you with advice and recommendations.
  • Your snapshot features is the blue section at the top left hand side of your profile. It contains your name at the top – Write a personal headline. It is the first thing people will see in your profile. It follows your name in search hit lists. It is your brand. Your company’s brand might be so strong that it and your title may be sufficient, or you may want to display your professional personality into a more eye-catching phrase that describes who you are. Other things included in the snapshot are your current and past positions. Your education, recommendation, connections, up to 3 websites, your twitter name, and your public profileVanity URL –This section of your profile, you can claim your own personal URL and control the elements of your profile that the public can see.
  • Your professional experience is sorted in chronological order and is displayed along with any recommendations others may have written for you. Briefly say what your company does and what you did or do for them. Try picturing yourself at a conference or networking event. After you introduce yourself how do you describe what you do, what your company does. Think about how you contributed and try to include things like increased sales, improved customer service or enhanced processes and improved efficiencies.
  • Recommendations help illustrate your achievements, project credibility, and show why other people enjoy working with you. Why get recommended? It helps you hire and get hiredIt helps you find customers and partnersIt builds your brand and reputationIt makes your network more valuableWho should recommend you?Former managersColleagues and co-workersCustomers and clientsBusiness partners
  • Introductions are LinkedIn messages that allow LinkedIn members to contact or to be contacted through shared or mutual connections. Connections can introduce you to anyone in their network by forwarding an Introduction message through a chain of their trusted professionals. Introductions expire after 6 months if the receiver does not respond to them. The exact number of Introductions available for your subscription level can be found here under the "Settings" options.
  • LinkedIn Groups is your destination to find and join communities of professionals based on common interests, experience, affiliation, and goals. Stay in touch with organizations, schools, and companies that you are and were a part of, network with professionals with similar interests and goals, while collaborating in a professional community online. you can view members in your group and search for members by name, company and other keywords such as specific areas of expertise. This can be a great way to find experts and utilize talent from within your network. Following is an easy way to track contributions from your network and share your own activity across groups. Following certain individuals lets you explore their best contributions across the groups you share on LinkedIn.

  • Creating a poll is a great way to get intel on your industry, talent market, or really anything that’s on your mind. It’s incredibly easy—you fill out a basic form with a question and up to five answer options. That’s it! Once you’ve created your poll, make sure you select the options to share it in your LinkedIn status update and on Twitter, and post a link to the poll in your groups—this will help your poll go viral and boost your response rate.  As we mentioned earlier in the presentation, one of our LinkedIn members started a poll about whether recruiters approaching you unsolicited on LinkedIn would bother you. He received almost 14,000 responses—as well as more than 1,500 comments! Talk about a great way to leverage the network to make you more effective at your job.

  • Did you know that LinkedIn has mobile apps for the iPhone, Blackberry, and Android – even for feature phones (i.e. the non-smartphone variety, which make up 80% of cell phones sold around the world today)? In fact, mobile is our fastest-growing segment today, with 400% year-over-year growth in mobile page views. What that means: members are connecting with us on the go, and you need to be doing that too! Download and use our mobile apps to use many key LinkedIn features on the go: checking out what your network is saying, viewing and responding to InMails, monitoring breaking news on LinkedIn Today and much more. What’s more, if you have an iPhone, you’re in luck – our Cardmunch app will make networking a breeze by digitizing business cards in a flash. This is an app that scans business cards using the camera on your phone, then maps that individual to their LinkedIn profile based on the contact information on their card and shows you all the great info you want to see – common connections, past work experience, education and more. From there, you can add the individual to your phone contacts, and even add notes on the go.
  • As we close out the presentation I hope you have been able to see the versatility in LinkedIn and how you may be able to use it to help transform your life! I’d like to leave you with a few points to Maximize your membership and reap the full power of the connections you make!
