  2. 2. VASTRA- SAMMAN in 25 cities (from 27 th September- 3 rd October’09) A nationwide campaign, bringing power of reuse & turning cities excess into a much needed development resource. A platform which will bring together people from all walks of life, encouraging them to get involved by contributing material & spreading the word about the concept.

VASTRA-SAMMAN People are calling it one of its kind campaign in the world and YOU can make it the largest material collection drive ever.. <ul><li>VASTRA-SAMMAN (dignifying clothing) is one of the major initiative by GOONJ during Joy of giving week from September 27th till October 3rd. </li></ul><ul><li>With a target to raise about 10 million units of material this pan India campaign will involve millions of people. Hundreds of schools, colleges, corporates, institutions, etc..will be participating in this with hundreds of volunteers managing a massive awareness cum collection campaign in at least 25 cities of the country. </li></ul><ul><li>This is a chance to tell people what significant role their old material can play in the life of millions of people, it’s an effort to tell people the importance of clothing as a subject </li></ul><ul><li>This is actually JUST not an old material collection drive -we are looking at collection of huge resources for the next at least couple of years as you know -we use this material under our 3 main initiatives : Cloth for work , Not just a piece of cloth and School to School. </li></ul><ul><li>This means you will find thousands of kids getting school material, thousands of women getting napkins and also hundreds of roads getting repaired, lakhs of trees being planted, work on water bodies etc..across the country where people will receive this material as reward as a part of Cloth for work. </li></ul>

GOONJ Collection/ Processing Plan <ul><li>Cities for active collection from people/exporters- 25 </li></ul><ul><li>Processing centres- 15 </li></ul><ul><li>Total collection points in these cities- minimum 100 + centres initiated by schools, residential societies, corporates etc. </li></ul><ul><li>Active collection period- 3 days i.e. October 1st to 3rd </li></ul><ul><li>Cities- </li></ul><ul><li>Total quantity expected over 300 trucks </li></ul>Bhopal Chennai Bangalore Hyderabad Coimbtore Mysore Tirupur Pondychery Delhi Jalandhar Chandigarh Dehradoon Lucknow Jaipur Mumbai Pune Surat Ahmedabad Nagpur Sholapur Amravati Kolkata Bhubaneshwar Jamshedpur Guwahati Central South North West East/ north east

Different Ways to Support the Initiative <ul><li>Space- </li></ul><ul><li>2000 sq ft + in all the above cities for processing centers- 1 to 6 months, starting September end </li></ul><ul><li>200 sq. ft. + at a commercial/visible place for collection centers, many in each city for 5 days i.e. Oct. 1st to 5th (3 days- active collection, 2 days- winding up/follow up) </li></ul><ul><li>Logistic Support – </li></ul><ul><li>Inter- city/ within the city - for a week to transport material contribution from collection </li></ul><ul><li>centers to processing center. </li></ul><ul><li>  Intra- city/ Processing centers to other cities/villages – spread over 07th Oct2009 till </li></ul><ul><li>Dec2010 based on sorting from cities. </li></ul><ul><li>Monetary support - Estimated expense 73 lakhs- full or partial support </li></ul><ul><li>Call Centre - to manage incoming calls from Sept. 15th till Oct.15th </li></ul><ul><li>Toll free number – Sept. 15th till Oct. 15th </li></ul><ul><li>25 new/old but working laptops - with good battery back up for all the 25 centers </li></ul><ul><li>25 recharged data card for 3 months </li></ul><ul><li>About 200 activated/charged Sim cards for 1 to 3 months to connect all the 25 cities on mobile. </li></ul>
  6. 6. <ul><li>Designing of our communication, for making collaterals or for providing free media/adv space- so any support in this is welcome. </li></ul><ul><li>Spreading the message- To your customer base/masses-using any of the tools you have, including packs, bills etc. </li></ul><ul><li>Connecting us with other companies- if a message can go from you to your partner companies, schools, clients etc </li></ul><ul><li>In-house drive- a lecture series in various centers for the employees of and partner companies for sensitization on the issue and the role they can play, a collection campaign across for material, newspapers etc. We will be collecting- all kind of clothes, footwear, utensils, school material, toys, books, dry ration etc. </li></ul><ul><li>Contributing old Newspaper- we are taking this as one of the major item to be collected as the idea is to do a substantial part of funding the entire campaign through sale of these newspaper instead of fully depending on grants etc…this is another power of recycling and a good way to involve masses. </li></ul><ul><li>Dead inventory- Can reach all your customers with an appeal to give us their dead inventory. Right from basic medicines to school material, clothing, tooth paste, tooth brush any and everything. As we will be able to consume the same in 3 to 6 months, the material with such remaining period before expiry can become a good resource with an obvious benefit to the companies. This can become a practice later on. </li></ul>

  8. 8. Campaign Planning <ul><li>City Hub/ Processing center ( HPC) </li></ul><ul><li>Only one in each city to receive the entire material. In the selected cities to be used a processing center. </li></ul><ul><li>Minimum space 1000 - 2000 sq/ ft. Need to be manned by our people. </li></ul><ul><li>A poster exhibition, donation box, product display, visitor book etc. available at the center. </li></ul><ul><li>Volunteers and people to unload- load are needed. </li></ul><ul><li>Collection Centers for public (CC) </li></ul><ul><li>Space- 200 - 400sq ft. No. of such centers depends on the size and geography of the city. </li></ul><ul><li>Minimum 2 volunteers and one support person to manage each center </li></ul><ul><li>A poster exhibition, donation box, product display, banner, visitor book etc. will be available at the center. </li></ul><ul><li>Main point of dissemination of information, interaction with the public; </li></ul><ul><li>Try not to keep many as every center will need the above mentioned resources. </li></ul><ul><li>Ideal place- schools (strengths include- lot of space, known venue and wide spread communication as just by sending a small leaflet – we reach 2000+ kids and 4000 + elders  ) </li></ul><ul><li>In house collection (IHC) </li></ul><ul><li>Promote this as much as possible. </li></ul><ul><li>Easiest to handle, not much logistics, efforts and resources involved. </li></ul><ul><li>Approach schools, corporates, organizations,colleges, residential societies, market associations, colonies, clubs, associations, satsang mandal, kitty parties, anybody and everybody in a group. </li></ul><ul><li>Ask them to hold a drive as per their convenience, we’ll provide them the required communication material. </li></ul><ul><li>Make sure that they transport after 3rd to our HPC. As this is going to be their joy of giving … </li></ul>

How to Volunteer <ul><li>Spare just a few hours & see how much change each one of us can make.. </li></ul><ul><li>Sign up.. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>City Campaign Coordinator – for 3 months to take care of the whole movement in your city </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>To join the GOONJ team 24X7 for 4 to 10 days (last week of September to first week of October ) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Manage Vastra Samman Collection centers in any of the 25 shortlisted cities (list enclosed). Means full time commitment from Sept 30th till 4th Oct which includes taking charge of the center, database management and interaction with people.. sounds tough? Believe us- its fun.. we have been doing it for years… </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Initiate a campaign in schools, colleges, corporates & other organizations, residential societies, market complexes etc. in your city. We will provide full logistical support.. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Connect us to your contacts; individuals, academic institutes, corporates, media, people for space, volunteers, logistics, packing material, finances, stationery & one-side used paper. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Add your city - if you are not from our shortlisted cities, you can still get involved. Just let us know before hand and we’ll send you all the relevant material including authorization letter. Just make sure your city’s people take care of transporting material to one of these 25 cities. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Let us know - of credible NGOs, organizations working in slums and villages. Budget & the development projects undertaken under ' Cloth for Work' will be worth many more crores..   Total material will be worth Rs. 18 crore Even if we calculate at most conservative cost of one unit at Rs. 25/- 72,000,00 Total units (1 bag = minimum 60 units ) 1,20,000 bags which means 300 trucks estimated collection 73,00,000 Estimated expense in cash   Some Facts / conservative estimates-
