• February is International Friendship MonthBy friendship, Do not mean # of followers on Twitter or “Friends” on Facebook. Define a friend. More than an acquaintance.
• Most of us “friend” people we already know. Facebook commonly used for Reunions – Family or SchoolDave and Jill Story. Reunion – Shared FB connections – Married!
• Don’t feel guilty about using the “not now” button. (Now more politically correct than “ignore!”)Shared comments on mutual friend’s pages are a frequent way I connect with someone new.
• Example Deirdre Reid – made friends on Twitter with folks in Raleigh NC before she moved there from Sacramento.
• Challenge: meet one new person tonight and start engaging on Twitter &/or Facebook with them. Follow up w/a coffee or lunch in a couple of weeks and see what happens!
• Facebook + Twitter great way to promote an event. Coming to an event single does not mean it’s a “singles” event!
• Typically free to attend but may require advance registration. Primarily organized and promoted on Twitter but may also be supported through Facebook Page or Event or through email marketing to past attendees.Social with a little biz thrown in. Sometimes, more comfortable to meet people in “safe” biz networking environment first.
• Usually participate for a fee, paid in advance. May be organized on a website but promoted via Facebook, Twitter, etc.
• Tweet me your success stories!
