    4. 4. VALUES Values are the criteria for determining good and bad , fair and unfair.
    5. 5. Integrity Integrity is defined as the unity of thought
    6. 6. Civic Virtue
    7. 7. Civic comes from the Latin word “civitas” which means “civilized” or living in a city. Think of the word “citizen.”
    8. 8. Virtue comes from the Latin word “virtus” which means being “moral” or “good”.
    9. 9. So. . . “Civic Virtue” is the behavior of good citizens. It includes: •Voting •Obeying rules and laws •Serving on juries Can you think of other examples?
    10. 10. RESPECT FOR OTHERS
    11. 11. Respect Definition: Showing high regard for self, others, and property.
    12. 12. Respect “The Golden Rule” Treating others the way you would want to be treated.
    13. 13. To practice Respect  Treat others like you want to be treated  Accept differences  Be fair  Be polite with others  Use the words like please, thank you etc
    14. 14. LIVING PEACEFULLY  Purpose of living is to be peaceful and happy  Pease of mind or happiness of mind is where there is no violence
    15. 15. How to Live in Peace Seek to love, not control others 2. be Tolerant 3. Be peaceful 4.Find inner peace 5. Live in joy 6. Broaden your understanding of peace 1.

    17. 17. COURAGE IN ETHICS  It is strength to face pain or grief  Courage EMPOWERS a person  Courage is a state of mind which accepts losses without loosing heart
    18. 18. Courage is…  It is also about being able to face uncomfortable situations.  Challenging yourself to try something new.
    19. 19. Develop Courage 1.Learn to face reality 2.Build character 3.Practice makes things permanent
    20. 20. Courage is not to DIE but to LIVE!

CARING  Attentiveness: recognition of others needs in order to respond to them  Responsibility: In order to care, we must take it upon ourselves, thus responsibility  Competence: Competence is the ability of an individual to do a job properly  Responsiveness: Responsiveness means "being able to react quickly,"
    22. 22. VALUING TIME A fraction of time cannot be bought by a “TON OF GOLD”  You cannot steel it.  Time does not come and go away.
    23. 23. Go ahead with planning: Steps to follow:  Start your day with a piece of paper  Pen down your work  Execute the plan  One at a time  Plan your calls, Emails & Fax  Do not have a long plan
    24. 24. Procrastination  Procrastination means postponing work  Time is lost  So never postpone work “ It is impossible to process without change.If you cannot change your mind, you cannot change anything”
    25. 25. COOPERATION • What is cooperation? - the action or process of working together for a common purpose or benefit
    26. 26. COMMITMENT is an agreement or promise to do (or not to do) something in the future
    27. 27. What benefits can you obtain (in the near future) from being a committed student in the Professional Ethics subject?
    28. 28. COMMITMENT  Commitment leads to trust. Commitments means: 1.Reliability 2.Character 3.Duty sense 4.Loyality 5.Integrity 6.Caring 7.Empathy
    29. 29. CHARACTER  People are not born with a character  It is a learning behaviour  We should be trained to build the good character
    30. 30. Building Good Character There are rules that help us in our daily living. These rules are the ground for a good behavior. Caring Citizenship Fairness Respect Responsibility Trustworthiness

    32. 32. What is it?  Empathy is the ability to both recognize and understand the feelings, thoughts, needs and behaviours of others.
    33. 33. People with Empathy Would Say… Empathy Builders: • “You look upset.” • “I understand how you feel.” • “I am sad that you are hurt.” • “I bet it hurts a lot. How can I help?” • “Good try!” • “That must have been difficult for you.” • “I am happy for you!”
