  2. 2. Welcome to the SJSJ Computer lab!<br />Goals:<br />Become good users<br />Become great users <br />Become power users!<br />Questions?<br />If you have any questions during my presentation, please raise your hand and wait to be called on.<br />
  3. 3. What You Will Need for this Class<br />Ear Buds (each student):<br />Available at the Dollar Tree for $1.00. The kind you would use to listen to an Ipod. <br />Please bring earbuds in a Ziplock bag with your name on it by Monday, September 19. I will keep these in the lab for your child’s personal use with audio activities<br />USB Flash Drive (Optional): <br />Students are required to back up all work. <br />A 4 GB USB Flashdrivecan be purchased for under $10.00<br />You will be able to upload work to your password protected wiki pages, where it can be accessed by you using any computer that is connected to the Internet. <br />If your you do not have access to the Internet at home, you will need a USB Flash drive for accessing and saving homework.<br />
  4. 4. Classroom Community<br />Our classroom is a community. In our community, we have rules to help us get along with each other. <br />Our class rules include:<br />Be respectful and responsible.<br />Be organized and follow directions.<br />Be on time<br />Be prepared.<br />

Beginning of Class, Please<br />Do:<br />Do Not:<br />arrive on time<br />take your assigned seat quietly and quickly<br />wipe keyboard and mouse with disinfectant cloth while you are waiting for class to start<br />wait for instructions<br />turn on monitor until told<br />touch keyboard or peripherals until told<br />
  6. 6. Stay Seated ~ Work Quietly<br />Have a question? <br />Need to use the lavatory?<br />Have a problem?<br />Need to get something from the printer?<br />RAISE YOUR HAND!<br />

While in the Lab, Please<br />Do Not:<br />bring food, drinks or gum into the lab<br />bang on keyboards<br />touch the monitor with your hands<br />Do:<br />make sure your hands are clean<br />use all equipment GENTLY<br />keep walk spaces clear of books, backpacks, etc.<br />tell your teacher immediately if something isn’t working<br />

Internet Use<br />Be sure to:<br />Unless directed by your teacher, there is NO:<br />NEVER give out personal information on the Internet<br />Visit only sites that are appropriate and relevant to your assignment<br />Respect all copyright policies for text, graphic, audio and video files<br />E-mailing<br />Chatting<br />Surfing<br />Watching Video<br />Listening to Music<br />

End of Class<br />Save your work as directed <br />Correct folder<br />Correct filename<br />Exit all applications<br />Check for and remove any components you may have plugged in to drives or ports (ear bud, CDs, flash drives, etc)<br />check your workspace (table and floor) and pick up all papers or trash<br />Wait to be told to line up to leave<br />

Assignments<br />Any projects not finished in class are to be completed as homework <br />Any student who loses lab privileges as a result of breaking the rules will be expected to complete all assignments on time as homework.<br />Homework and assignments will be posted with requirements and due dates on our technology wiki:<br />
  14. 14. Consequences for Breaking the Lab Rules*<br />1st Incident - Verbal Warning<br />2nd Incident – Loss of computer privileges for the rest of the day. Written notice to be signed by parents.<br />3rd Incident – Loss of computer privileges for the week, sent to Principal’s office. Written notice to be signed by parents.<br />* Additional consequences may include suspension of student’s e-mail, wiki or other online accounts<br />
