Statistics According to the Emergency Services andHomeless Coalition of Jacksonville (ESHC)annual census and survey which measure thenumber and needs of homeless individuals inDuval County conducted on January 12,2012:Demographic Characteristics of homeless: 69.7 percent of homeless were male Mean age was 40 years Six percent were Hispanic / Latino

Statistics Total counted: 2,861 adults and children homeless in Jacksonville Duval County: 2,533 Beaches: 72 Clay County: 244 Nassau County: 84 This is a 31.4 percent decrease from the previous point-in-time count Education and Employment of homeless: Almost two-thirds (61.3 percent) of the survey participants had a highschool diploma/equivalency or higher Ten percent of the survey respondents were employed

StatisticsOther Life Experiences Fourteen percent of the homeless individuals had served in the USmilitary One out of ten of the United Way and survey participants hadbeen in foster care One-fifth of the United Way and survey participants identifiedthemselves as a survivor or victim of domestic violenceHealth Over half (56.4 percent) of the United Way and surveyparticipants claimed to have at least one disabling condition Over half (56.1 percent) of the survey participants believed theywere at least in “good” healthAssessment of Needs Top 3 needs identified: Housing/Shelter – 70.6 percent Job – 45.4 percent Medical – 33.7 percent Food/Meals – 29.1 percent
