Gharda Foundation, with the initiative and support of Gharda Chemicals Ltd., has launched the Bai Ratanbai Gharda Memorial Library in Bandra (West) with the objective of providing good facilities for studying and reading and to develop a passion for reading among people of all walks of life and age groups. According to a library official, the centrally air-conditioned library has over 8,000 books covering various subjects. “The collection available at Bai Ratanbai Gharda Memorial Library ranges from literature, management, medicine, engineering, law, art, history, science and biographies etc. The strength of the library lies in its collection of more than 200 books on leadership, negotiation, entrepreneurship and conflict management. “One can also find an exhaustive collection of picture books on various forms of art. For the travel enthusiast, books on travel to different destinations will help tourists get a first hand knowledge of what they can expect to see at the places they visit. The library is upgraded with web-based library software system, which makes it very user friendly,” explained the official. The facilities at the library include a mini auditorium. “The reading room operates from 9 am to 10 pm every day and the library between 9 am to 7 pm on all working days. Measuring 5.000 sq ft, situated on the ground and first floor of Gharda House near Elco Market on Bandra’s Hill Road, the library also has stack rooms, digital library and book issue section. The membership charges are minimal and reading room facility is offered with nominal registration charges. A large number of CDs of western classical music, ballets and operas will also be available for viewing and later for check out,” informed the official.
