  • 2. IMAGES OUT OF THE ORDINARYABOUT THE GARDENTHE HAMPTON COURT PALACE FLOWER SHOW IS THE WORLD’S LARGEST FLOWER SHOW. AMONGST THEMAGNIFICENT FLORA AND FAUNA ON DISPLAY ARE A DOZEN SHOW GARDENS, MANY OF WHICH CARRY ATHEME. ONE OF MY EARLY FAVOURITES WAS CAROLINE COMBERS’ GARDEN FEATURING CURVED STEELPANELS. SINGLE SPECIES ARE PLANTED IN CIRCLES AND WHERE THESE OVERLAP THE SPECIES BLEND, UNTILTHEY REACH THE MAIN BED WHERE ALL THE SPECIES ARE PLANTED TOGETHER. I WAS PARTICULARLYSTRUCK BY THE 24 BIRCH TREES, WHOSE HONEY-TONED BARK BLENDED SO WELL WITH THE RUST COLOUREDMETAL. THE JUDGES WERE ALSO IMPRESSED, AWARDING IT NOT JUST A GOLD MEDAL BUT THE ULTIMATEACCOLADE OF BEST SHOW GARDEN. WITH THESE IMAGES I HOPE I’VE MANAGED TO CAPTURE THE SUBTLEBEAUTY OF CAROLINE’S GARDEN, HER FIRST MAJOR DESIGN SINCE GRADUATING FROM CAPEL MANORCOLLEGE.INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY NOTICETHE IMAGES CONTAINED IN THIS PRESENTATION WERE CREATED BY GARY MARLOWE AND, WHILST BEINGAVAILABLE FOR VIEWING ON SLIDESHARE, THEY REMAIN THE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OF GARY MARLOWE.© GARY MARLOWE | 2011 gary marlowe
