Work Package 2 – Overview • Water is central to socio-economic development in our countries • Impacts of climate change will be manifested through water • Climate Change will impact socio-economic development (e.g. loss in GDP, loss of life, damages to infrastructure) and ecosystems • Need to build water security and contribute to climate resilience to guarantee socio-economic development and ecosystem integrity

National Development • Water related adaptation responses to climate change issues are fragmented – need for coherence
  5. 5. Overall Objective – Work Package 2  Support countries to integrate water security and climate resilience into national development planning, decision-making processes
  6. 6. Specific Objectives • To build a case for integration of water security and climate resilience in development (providing economic, social and environmental arguments) • To review and synthesise existing information on climate risks, vulnerability and impacts of climate change to water resources, energy, food security and other development priorities; and assess the overall impact on national development
  7. 7. Specific Objectives • To identify and strengthen synergies among existing water and adaptation related plans • To assess the institutional development and public investment planning processes and identify suitable entry points for integrating water security and climate resilience • To ensure water security and climate resilience are taken on board when making investment decisions in development
  8. 8. Work Package Key Output  Support packages to national organisations in developing legal frameworks / policies / strategies, sectoral and development plans- that integrate water security and climate resilience
  9. 9. • National Assessments: develop country baseline evidence to help better understand the impact of climate change on development  Deliverables: Country Climate Risk and Vulnerability Report (showing vulnerable zones/hotspots) Country Document: Building a case for water security and climate resilience (promoting the importance of investing) Economics of Adaptation to Climate Change (related to water security and climate resilience) Examples on types of activities in Work Package 2
  10. 10. • Stakeholder engagement and institutional analysis: Support in identifying key stakeholders for water, climate and development and understanding the national development planning context  Deliverables Country stakeholder analysis for water, climate and development leading to multi-stakeholder engagement process Country Report on national development planning context (institutional arrangements, budget processes) – leading to a coordinating mechanism for in integrating water issues Examples on types of activities in Work Package 2
  11. 11. • National Adaptation Responses: support sectors that depend and impact on water to screen and prioritise for investments in water security and climate resilience  Deliverables  Report on expert contributions to national organisation/s on integrating water security and climate resilience. Examples on types of activities in Work Package 2
