  • According to the third annual Bryan Cave real estate executives forecast survey done in Mar. this year, nearly 61% of real estate professionals surveyed have plans to invest in real properties outside the U.S. within the next 12 months, despite of threat of terrorism, pandemic virus and continuing military conflict in certain parts of the world. Respondents expressed the greatest interest in investing in one of 2 countries: Mexico 15% AND China 15%. China may announce rules this month aimed at curbing foreign investment in real estate The rules will define what type of foreign investor will be allowed to buy property and are aimed at regulating inflows of overseas funds into real estate and preventing speculation Overseas investors including Citigroup Inc., Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. are seeking to gain from China's real estate market as economic growth fuels demand for offices, shops and homes. But Chinese government is stepping up efforts to cool the market to prevent a property bubble. Overseas institutions bought property worth of $3.4 billion in China last year that didn't include many of transactions that can't be tracked and confirmed by individual investors.
